These beautiful 1930s/1940s patchwork jeans are a prized possession of mine. They come from my friends at Desert Vintage, naturally! There are so many hand-done repairs on these jeans, you can get lost in the intricacies of them. Well-worn and patched denim is a lifelong obsession of mine, I get it from my mom. She always had a stack of Levi’s 501s in her closet and on the weekends we’d go to thrift stores to hunt for rare and beautiful pairs. I remember one time we encountered a Japanese denim picker who was taking a load of denim back to Tokyo. He asked my mom if she wanted to sell any of hers, and we met him at the same thrift store the next day and she sold him some of her orange tab Levi’s. What a funny occurence in the middle of North Texas! Certainly those experiences taught me to put a high value on denim. It’s probably why today my jean drawer takes up half my wardrobe. I can never say no to a pair of beautiful old jeans!
