First things first, a big thank you to the reader who reccomended Brown Rice Cafe to me-it's my new favorite. I've grabbed lunch there the past two days with my mom.
An exciting find right next to Brown Rice Cafe was the Crayon House-a kids book and toy store, which also has an organic cafe downstairs.
The kids books there were sooo cute…wish I could read them.
I'd like to know what this book was about…can't read japanese but I'm pretty sure the title is Satan Rides the Big Queef.
Loved this one about a kindly furry turd monster.
Upstairs at the Crayon House was the toy floor(!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
Mom and I were wanting to bring all of these cool toys home and then we saw this big siamese kitty……
and suddenly kitty was the only thing that mattered to us. We were getting so lonely without our pets, this kitty was the perfect solution. It was immediately decided that the kitty would be our constant companion.
We've only just picked out a name for the kitty: her name is Nao.

Nao likes to ride in my mom's Prada bag.

I think I’m gonna go to japan just to flirt with that waiter… And then marry him and kids and live happily ever after…ahh a girl can dream anyways.
Such a cute kitty!
Ooh! Nao is too cute! She looks beautiful perched in your mom’s Prada! Love your outfit, especially those degrade MM boots, and your mom looks fab as well, of course! :) Man, your pics are amazing! What camera are you using?
xx
haha! wow that’s too cute!
lol Nao should get his own blog! haha
Nao is the twin of my siamese, Rama! what a wonderful trip you are having. thanks so much for all the info. can’t wait to see more.

Nao is so cute… i love reading about your adventures in tokyo, i’m quite envious! please check out my blog at http://framestheworld.blogspot.com/ thanks!
This post is so full of happiness! Love the photos of Nao + everyone. So freakin’ cute!
Nao is such a cutie! I’m sure she’s glad you freed her from the Crayon House and that she gets to enjoy fame and adventure. Your outfit is so cute, too– it’s no surprise you got your picture taken for a street style blog.
Is Nao suppose to be a girl or a boy? I guess the title of this post should have been: “Responsible Pet Ownership”….LOL….because you have such ardent compassion for animals. bE sAFe!
Mercury ;)
omg! Nao is so cute, i just want to hug it :), i love your outfit, especially the boots they are soo. . texas! lol, i’m from Mexico, but i live near texas, and i just love those boots they remind me a lot of the cowboys i see walking the streets nearly every day.
xo!
haha, you and your mom are so funny. Nao looks so real. (:
It’s so amazing how in all these pictures everyone has humongous wide smiles… Nao is definitely a charmer!
Great pictures, although I laughed at the thought of you taking the belt/crotch street snap.
Also I agree with the comment above, cat carrying shall definately become a trend :)
I think you and your mom are cheeky & glamorous at the same time! You two make a great pair! So stylish & clever! I hope Nao has fun at the aquarium! {tell her to leave those fish alone!} Your blog is totally great, you guys are truly talented!
Ha, that cat is awesome!! For the best green tea I’ve ever had in my life go to The Westin in Ebisu. I wasn’t much of a green tea fan until I had it there. Now I’ve been looking all over Australia to find just as good!
you guys are too cute! i love how you and your mom are the best of friends and go childishly delightful with toys!
The title of the satan book is something like “crying red devil”- but my Japanese is not so hot.
I’m dying! That is too funny about Nao…
It looks like you’re having the greatest time!! Love Nao – so cute :)
what a cute kitty. ^.^ also wondering what you’re wearing in the first photo of you with nao..?
Aww its so cute how you took Nao everywhere!
I LOVE your ensemble here.. I want your skirt!!
and I’m officially in love with the boots!
omg!! he is so cute and funny too! thanks for making me laugh and smile. lol
You know, I scrolled down and saw “Satan Rides the Big Queef” and promptly lost it. Too funny! That will be stuck in my mind all night! Enjoyed the post. :)
amazing!
I had a friend who had a similar concept to Nao
He bought a stuffed giraffe in southern Argentina while backpacking, named it Fernando
all his ensuing facebook albums featured Fernando in exotic locations throughout south america, it was hilarious
I really don’t understand the fascination with Nao and stuffed animals in general. Lol this post just made me laugh because I thought that was so weird. I’m at a loss for words…maybe its just me. Great streetstyle pictures.
(new reader here)
love the shots of your adventures in Japan! Amazing how Nao is bridging you with the locals, as well as the common ground you share with all the fashionable Harajuku/Omotesando strollers. I was in Japan during late May and I wanted to get more stylish shots of everyone here but left after barely two weeks – your shots take me back and put a smile on my face.
i’ve been following your blog for a while but never commented (i don’t think… maybe once, can’t remember), but i just had to say something. this is hilarious, i am laughing so hard. you have a great sense of humor with your description of the children’s books and toting around Nao. your blog is great. keep up the good work! oh and also, your outfit went in my inspiration folder… thanks!
nao is so cool!
ive got a frog (kermit from the muppets) that i take with me everywhere i travel, and i take him pictures as well like in the coliseum in rome or the eiffel tower, i dont know if u had watch the film “Amelie” that she gets pictures from the neightbours garden gnome everywhere in the world. well i do that with coco, thats how i call kermit. maybe sometime they are going to meet up. great shoes btw.

Awww I love Nao!
I’m a total cat lady at heart, not going to lie.
But seriously, have you noticed how many stray cats there are in Japan?
They’re EVERYWHERE.
I went a few summers ago and made like a hundred kitty friends :)
Lovely! ;)
I have a tiny plush bullterrier which travels with me aaaallll the time – he is my model as well ;)
If you are ever in London – take Nao with you!;)
A.
Wouldn’t imagine Nao to create such a scene in Tokyo…so cute! You look gorgeous in that skirt:)
great outfit. you are a fab photographer. the food looks amazing!!!

“Satan Rides the Big Queef.” That’s seriously the funniest thing I’ve read all week. And congrats on the new cat =]
LOVE that ourtfit… I love blue so much. Not such a cat person though…
the food looks amazing! i am always loving your boots :)
When I was little I lived in Singapore, one day after I had done a school play my mum said she’d buy me something nice. We went to Toys’r’Us and I chose a cuddly siamese cat who is a smaller version of Nao! (but with less floppy arms and in a much worse state seeing as shes waaaay over hugged!)
Its obviously a popular design in Asia!! Mines called Katy.
The title of the book is something like “The Red Monster Who Cried”. But “Satan Rides the Big Queef” was close!
Have you and your mom been to Shimokitazawa yet? It’s twenty minutes from Harajuku, practically a city dedicated to secondhand clothing stores. The people there dress the strangest in all Japan, you should deffinately check it out. There’s this store called Grand Bazaar and they have Yohji Yamamotos and MIHARAYASUHIROs, and the most stylish shop keepers.
I’ll be there tomorrow, and then to Harajuku too… maybe I’ll run into you =)
This gave me the biggest smile, and I still can’t stop smiling :D
Nao is ridiculously adorable.
So adorable, that it made me almost forget about Satan riding the big queef!
everyone needs a Nao every now and then :)
You made my day! I love your super-cute outfit and Nao is so funky, haha :D

That made me smile, so fun to read! I’m going to do that next time I’m in Japan.
What a hoot. I love this whole photo essay, and of course, both you & your mom’s outfits. So into sky blue & white, greys, pale pinks.. colours of a typical English summer, basically.
Didn’t realise you were still in Tokyo, and wished you two a safe trip home ages ago. Duh.
Thanks for taking the time to post these shots – really enjoying the diversion. Now back to my real life : )
p.s. We have a great cat & since I can’t carry him round London, I’m gonna look for my very own Nao. He/she really is the perfect accessory!
I envy “Nao” the cat. Such a cute kitty and so much fun to shoot a camera with. There are so many possibilities to shoot from.
I noticed you’ve been wearing those boots alot in Japan, I recall you mentioning how comfortable they were earlier – I think you’ve definitely proved that :) Wish I could find some as comfortable, all my boots are out to get me! Look like you’re having a great time, hope you and your mum have a safe trip!!!
skirt and boots are fabulous – but my favorite thing about this post is Nao! So great…
omg …how you got everyone to pose with the cat! hilarious. …love your skirt.
Oh that stuffed cat is hiliarious. Love those cowboy boots. Looks like Tokyo is way to much fun for you girls. Be sure to check out my site on Monday I’m doing a giveaway.

SO cute!
Does your mom have a blog too?
jane I love that you carry Nao around with you, so cute.
The girl in the blue cardigan sitting on a sidewalk guardrail with her boyfriend was photographed in Harajuku that same day by someone for Tokyo Street Style. The funny thing is, I recognized her from the boots she was wearing! Shoes are what does it!
The other thing I’m noticing in your pictures is that almost no one is wearing high heels! I picked up on this in Elle Magazines street fashion shots, as well — 95% of the women were in flats. Is this a trend? Thanks to Michelle Obama? End of an era? I’d hate to put all my gorgeous shoes away! Even your Mom switched to red flip-flops! What’s going on here?
Maybe it’s like handbags — they got so big and so over the top last year, that this year all we see are simple little envelope clutches. Then the shoes went crazy — higher and higher, ruffles, bows, charms, feathers, wild heels — maybe there’s no where to go from here but simple little flats!
I love that you are discovering such fun experiences, where you are at is such an awesome place, my sister lives right by that area of Tokyo, I have been and loved it! Cant wait to follow your footsteps to these cool lunch spots when I move there in the fall-
wow, that cat is A M A Z I N G ! ! !
http://www.thestylishyouth.com
I do not think it is siamese, they are not that hairy.
It looks like Neva Masquerade :) Check it :)
Hilarious photos :)
……

http://www.sexyinthecity.es
haha you have been making so many friends in Japan. everyone seems quite friendly! I’m sure that if I was a street style photog while I was in Europe last year, most everyone would’ve given me a weird look if I asked for a picture. it’s interesting/amusing that you carry around Nao wherever you go. but why did you name it Nao? does it mean something in Japanese? or as one commenter mentioned, doesn’t it mean “No” in Portuguese?
Fabulous pictures…the little is so cute and that Prada purse is simply devine.
Recommendedonline.wordpress.com
I love the woman photographer’s pants. and i think i love her as well.
she’s one friendly cat :) love your outfit, awesome boots!

Missing your pets on holiday is really sad.. So adorable to take Nao everywhere! Nice outfit too – love the Margiela boots ^^
great pictures add a lot to your blog. obviously.
also, that kitten is amusing. have fun! :)
Jane,
I have to say that I love your blog and follow it religiously. I do have one comment though. I am Japanese and I find it offensive that even though you do not know what the book says or means mocking it and saying that it could be “Satan Rides the Big Queef” is not something that is to be poked at. Some of those books are traditional and have been used to education children for a countless number of decades. Reading that comment made me feel as though you were poking fun at our traditions and customs. I did not take it lightly.
As a fan, please be careful of how you say things. As you have noticed, staying in Japan, we are very cultural and traditional and conservative. We do not take any poking fun at our traditions lightly.
Thank you.
aw, im feeling totally nostalgic of my toy shop days.. I think im gonna go buy a teddy now! cute photos and i love your jeans!
xoxo
Lol that cat truly is hysterical.
Nao is in fact Holy/Sacred Birman ; ) We have one- and it´s nuts!

I love Nao! When I was in Paris last year, I bought a Nici wolf in sheep’s clothing and carried him around in The Lourve. I got stares but he was a great companion =) Nao’s adorable though. Is he/she on sale elsewhere?

oh my god.
get a fucking life.
get some friends other than your mom and something to do other than carry a fucking fake cat around.
Your taste in shoes is good but your fashion sense is terrible. So overrated.
you dress like you’re a 9 year old with high heels on.
Go away.
so adorable! I love Nao.
And you’re so lucky you can got to Tokyo, and travel.
I don’t go much anywhere besides Chicago, Florida, etc.

Hi Jane!
I know it’s really late to post this (especially since your own post dates back from.. what.. July?), but I am just so curious.
I suppose everyone always asks you about brands and ‘where did you got..’ when it comes to your clothes, but now, I need to ask you where you got Nao from.
Not which shop off course (I’m not going to Tokyo within a few months or so), but what brand it was.
I guess I bumped into a cute plush kitty very similar to your Nao.
It was a Kösen Plush-kitty. So cute and the most perfect accessory for a real-cat-lacking cat-lover like me (my mum believes she’s allergic to real ones, though that’s never proven).
Greeties!

Funniest damn post I’ve ever read!! I officially must have a Nao of my own!!
Good pair of MM (Martin Margiela) cowboy boots Jane. Its matching with that lovely skirt and the one which your mom wore Hysteric Glamour jeans is looking cool. Nao is really cute kitten.buydiscountcowboyboots.com

Real beauty comes from learning, growing, and loving in the ways of life. That is the Art of Life. You can learn slowly, and sometimes painfully, by just waiting for life to happen to you. Or you can choose to accelerate your growth and intentionally devour life and all it offers. You are the artist that paints your future with the brush of today
All is but lip-wisdom that wants experience.Expericence is a hard teacher because she gives the test first, the lesson afterwards. Do you think so?
The best preparation for good work tomorrow is to do good work today.Do you think so?
Actually, I’m on to all these Bolshevik tricks and I have devised a secret contorted torus counterweapon that is extremely sophisticated and is now handily defeaten the communist baccilae everywhere. We do not at all times get our hopes and dreams, and we never generally get our very own way.
But do not quit hope, since you could make a variation a person scenario and just one man or woman at a time.
why is everyone in Tokyo look FREAKIN’ GORGeous even fat people.
I want a Nao of my own.
liked all of your outfits in this one, the blue one was especialy different from what I usually see on you.
Dear, please remeber that don’t miss your smile forever!
Enjoy your blog very much. I have read your chest on frame article noticed you make your own forged nails from common nails. I wonder if you might tell how you do this in a future blog.
Nice colorful pictures. I love those shoes.
For those of you who are purchasing ebridalgowns,we realize that this is one of the most important purchasing decisions you will make.
Nice pictures. I love the stuffed cat.
