ROAD TRIP-off to Austin

FashionLifestyleTravel
Oct 25, 2009171 Comments

I'm in the middle of packing for a short road trip to Austin…I'm going with my mom and my aunt Karen for two days of vintage shopping & really good Mexican food. I love Austin, I can't wait to go back. The shopping there is so great!

Before I go, some pictures of tasty junk food I consumed this week with two of my best friends.

Curly fries at Pizza Hut..nice blue nailpolish Viky!!

Jumbo sized gumdrops..they look so pretty but after eating five of them you kind of want to heave.

Corey tackles Viky

Viky tries on my Ray Ban glasses

Showing off an AMAZING jungle green velvet wrap skirt..it's vintage YSL, I can't stop wearing it. Definitely packing it for this road trip.
Worn with a mohair Prada cardigan, vintage belt, and Prada sling backs.

Mm McDonad's ice cream!! Haha, I'm sorry for such a boring post. I've been busy this week organizing upcoming trips.

Can't wait to share my pictures of Austin with you guys…until then!

xo Jane

    Hey lady —
First of all, that photo of you in the supermarket literally made me smile. In a public coffeeshop!
Secondly, it reminded me of the latest post in my blog, Fashion for Writers, which I do with my friend Jenny; the post is called FFW Heart-to-Heart: Wearing a Cocktail Dress to the Grocery Store, or, The Implications of Overdressing. It’s a thoughtful, yet whimsical discussion between the two of us in which we talk about what it means to — often — be the most dressed-up person in the room.
    http://fashionforwriters.com/2009/10/25/ffw-heart-to-heart-wearing-a-cocktail-dress-to-the-grocery-store-or-the-implications-of-overdressing/
Hopefully you’ll find it interesting; I’d be honored if you’d take a look.
    Best,

Hardly boring! If nothing else, the photographs are the highlight of the post (especially that first photo – the lighting it just breathtaking – and ironic considering it’s of a hand salting fast food). I come back to this blog again and again not only for your interesting take on fashion, but for the absolutely superb candid photography. I would die quite a happy woman if I could take photos like yours!
And it’s nice to see that someone still dresses up to go do the supermarket shopping. :)

I never really posted anything but I saw a comment above and really feel like I need to say something: My boyfriend loves fashion too. Probably not as much as me but he appreciates it and also buys high-end fashion. It’s not necessary that guys who appreciate good design have to be gay. I disagree. I do read Jane’s bf blog sometimes and I highly doubt that he’s gay.

TONYA: wtf? I hope you realize how rude and inappropriate your comment was re boys and J’s boyfriend. I am sure Jane doesn’t need anyone to defend her and I hope she is above all the shiz that some morons throw at her blog, but really, how do you think a 17 year old – who is unique and beautiful – might feel when people keep telling her that everybody is jealous and her boyfriend is just after publicity and she’s just a spoiled brat for having beautiful things? Jane and her mom have been extremely kind to let us all into their homes and closets, and their attitudes have always been positive, welcoming and way too nice for the crap that some of you leave here. show some respect at least.

    Jane,
I love how you dress like everyday is a special occassion. I love to wear upscale, chic outfits like velvet skirts and heels to ordinary places like the grocery store with my friends but I often feel like I clash with their “jeans-sweatshirt” ensembles and I look way too overdressed.
    How do you do it?

I can’t believe people are giving you crap about overdressing. Most people wish they had the wardrobe and style to wear a beautiful outfit to a mundane event. Life is way too short. Everyone should wear something they feel beautiful in whether they’re going to a cocktail party or the grocery store.

No! This is not a boring post at all! I think it’s always so nice to see a tiny glimpse into each fashion bloggers life. (Granted we don’t need or want every little detail…) But it is always nice to get a taste for their everyday life. It gives this cyber world and these online connections a more tangible element. And certainly for someone who is as big of a deal in both the blogging and fashion community outside the internet as you are, it helps to understand how “normal” you are. The fact that you go to the grocery store to buy junk food and goof off with your friends is precious and priceless. (Of course you look more stylish doing so than most people could ever hope to…) I guess what I’m trying to say is that it brings that relatability factor. I hope that makes sense. Anyway, just a thought. Thanks for sharing with us the everyday fun and happenings.
Great outfit! The velvet skirt is beautiful. A truly wonderful piece!

I hate that the Americans wear sweatpants all the time. And they’re usually dirty, too long and don’t even cover their asses! I can’t stand seeing someone ass or “sexy” lingerie everywhere! And I don’t understand why does almost everyone wear something from Hollister every day. Hoodie from H., tank top from H., jeans from H. That’s a hell. Each of these clothes scream: That’s made by Hollister! As I have the same amount of money as normal teenager who works after school I’d rather buy something from American Eagle or the other brands. They don’t have big prints thrown all over their clothes. I mean I don’t buy a t-shirt which says to everyone: “I’m from AE” I wish I could wear really high hills like you do but I don’t know how to walk in them. Ok, if they’re wedges or they don’t have something skinny, long under my feet that I can easily break my legs it’s not a big problem. But still the ones which are so high aren’t available for me.
Your fan from Chicago (the hell full of rarely washed sweatpants, Hollister teens, and those who think that they’re emo, but they’re just weird “WTF’s”).

On the contrary, it isn’t boring at all, and let me say this for starters, that was some awesome shot at those curly fries, the darkness made it look better. Getting back at road trips, a few times every month, me and my buddies goes around Burlington, Ontario with my Mitsubishi to find some good place to eat at, which we never been to before, just to remove the boredom on our system.

Road trips are such fun-filled events that I always enjoy with my friends and family in Indianapolis. It is also a good time to visit scenic places, visit your distant loved ones, or just plain old revisiting the past. But for me, one of my agenda is to try out how long will my Hyundai that I bought at the dealers will last, given that I maintain it like I am taking care of a child.
