2019 Wardrobe Dreams

2019 Wardrobe Dreams

I think my wardrobe is due for a new year pruning, which means it is a good time to immerse myself in wardrobe inspiration. It’s good to have a clear view of how you want your wardrobe to serve you before you purge anything too hastily! I have a tendency to eschew basics in favor of more crazy impractical things (especially rare vintage pieces I’m unwilling to part with). I think I could stand to invest in a few more classic pieces, like this gorgeous tan strap bucket bag. I’m terrible at buying bags as I prefer a statement bag to a basic, even though I’d get more use out of a bag like this one!

I have quite a few things I’m keeping my magpie eye on once the post Christmas sales start…here are some of my top choices.

Lingerie for Small Busts

Lingerie for Small Busts

Earlier this year I did a post about buying lingerie, and I have really been looking forward to sharing a follow up addressing one of the questions I got asked the most: where to buy lingerie for the flat chested person who does not fit into an A cup? It is a difficult conundrum that I’ve struggled to solve.

I have had a lifelong fascination with lingerie and when I started collecting it, I quickly realized I had a major obstacle in my mission to acquire it: I did not fit into most standard A-cups. I’m about a 32AA. I don’t mind my flat chest at all (breasts in all shapes and sizes are wonderful things) but it does bother me that my small chest size is such an obstacle when it comes to buying pretty underpinnings. I bemoaned this in my earlier lingerie post and I was really happy to have so many readers who echoed my sentiment. Luckily I think that in the last few years the needs of small busted women in the lingerie market are starting to be adressed a bit more. For years I felt like the only bras I could find were super padded, and those still left me with gapping. Slingshot bras like those sold by Free People are fantastic for everyday wear, but what is a small chested lingerie lover supposed to do when they really want to dress to the hilt?

Our Favorite Fragrances as Chosen by Jeff and Me

Our Favorite Fragrances as Chosen by Jeff and Me

When Jeff and I were first dating, we quickly bonded over our passion for the wonderful world of fragrance. I remember fondly on one of our first trips together how we ended up in a Barney’s for what seemed like an eternity sampling and comparing notes on almost every cologne or perfume in the store. It’s something we find ourselves doing a lot while shopping or traveling. Whenever we travel to a new city, finding a few spots to discover new fragrances ranks almost as high as jotting down restaurants or vintage shops.

I’ve always felt that having a collection of signature scents can fit perfectly right alongside your personal style, and also provide a positive boost to your mood. Like fresh coffee in the morning or freshly cut grass, a fragrance has a way of waking up your senses and adding a little spark to your day. Chosen correctly, it can do that for others too. Who doesn’t like receiving a compliment on what perfume or cologne you’re wearing? It’s how you know when you have a good one!

Classic Diamonds

Classic Diamonds

Can you believe it’s December already? I am so excited, December is the month I wait for all year to roll around. We have a lot of fun holiday parties and holiday dinners to plan (it is also my birthday and my husband’s birthday this month). Luckily for me that also means a lot of fun outfits to plan. Time to start styling!

I wanted to share with you today some images I styled with Vahan’s stunning jewelry collection, an opportunity I’ve been looking forward to for a long time. With the holidays coming up I am looking for jewelry pieces that can really elevate a look and make the clothes I already own look more beautiful. That to me is the beauty of this jewelry collection. I was initially drawn to Vahan for their classically glamorous design sensibility. I knew the bracelets, ring, and earrings I selected to wear were going to be stunning but I was really blown away by the transformative effect they had when I put them on. Suddenly the dress I was wearing seemed more like a gown. As a photographer I must say I was captivated by the way each piece catches the light. The 14k gold, sterling silver, and diamonds create an unbelievably flattering effect against the skin, almost like a walking around with a beauty dish on you. After wearing this collection myself, I think I’ve begun to understand Elizabeth Taylor’s fascination with diamonds. Any girl who finds these earrings under the tree this year would be very lucky!

Endometriosis: Struggling with Chronic Pain and the Diet That Gave Me Relief

Endometriosis: Struggling with Chronic Pain and the Diet That Gave Me Relief

Disclaimer: I am not certified to give medical advice in any way, shape or form and that is the furthest thing from my intent with this post. I am just speaking to my personal experience living with endometriosis, some of what I’ve learned and read over the last few years, and what has worked for me with regards to managing it. If you think you are suffering from endometriosis, please speak to a health professional. I am not qualified to give anyone advice on treating this disease in any way. I’m still struggling to cope with endometriosis too.

Hi guys! I wanted to finally write a post that has been highly requested by you over the last few months. As some of you may know, I have struggled with endometriosis over the last six years and in the last year have changed my diet to alleviate some of the pain and other symptoms of endo.

Some of you may be wondering what endometriosis is. In short, endometriosis is a disease where the endometrial tissue that lines your uterus starts growing outside the uterus, where it is not supposed to grow. It creates a lot of scar tissue and can grow all over your organs, sometimes fusing them together. Google a picture of it, it looks like something out of the movie Alien. Endometriosis can be an incredibly painful disease. Some of the other symptoms are excruciating pain and cramps, abnormally heavy menstruation, cystic acne, infertility, nausea, frequent urination, lower back pain, bladder pain, rectal pain, pain during sex, abdominal cramping and swelling, depression, and fatigue. It is important that I note that some women with endometriosis may not experience any symptoms at all. I have a friend who found out at the age of 43 that she had endometriosis because the endometrial growth had started cutting off some of her organ functions. She had experienced no symptoms her entire life.

Last of Autumn

Last of Autumn

Happy Monday, I hope (US readers) had a wonderful long holiday weekend and a great Thanksgiving. I love how peaceful the city is during a holiday, Jeff and I got up early one morning to wander downtown and it felt like we were the only people in the world. The leaves are the most intense shades of orange and red right now, it really makes me want to soak it all up while it lasts!

I mentioned on my instastories that I bought these AGOLDE jeans I’ve been wanting for a while during the Shopbop sale. They are called the 90’s jean, but the shape really reminds me of 40’s jeans (a fitted ultra high waist and boxy wide legs) which is so fun for styling with cropped jackets and knits. I have been wearing these jeans since they arrived. I am so happy to find some new denim that suits my style so well.

Happy Thanksgiving and Some Sale Picks

Happy Thanksgiving and Some Sale Picks

Tomorrow is Turkey Day and Jeff and I are hosting this year, so you’ll have to excuse the lazy iPhone outfit photo. We’ve been busy the last few days getting ready for Thanksgiving. I came across this vintage Adolfo jacket I’ve had for years when I was cleaning up and was filled with nostalgia, so I decided to wear it immediately (with crop flare jeans and granny boots).

I wisely decided to prepare all of my food contributions for Thanksgiving (risotto gratin! brown butter madeleines!) ahead of time so tomorrow I can relax with a glass of wine while Jeff cooks the rest. I’ll be perusing the Black Friday sales, as I have been very good lately and haven’t bought many new things! I already picked up these perfect 90s fit boyfriend jeans, because I can’t get enough of that look lately.

Hope my stateside readers get to enjoy some wonderful time with their families and friends tomorrow!

What I’m Stocking Up On For Winter

What I’m Stocking Up On For Winter

Click on the items to shop the looks!

Winter is almost upon us and the chilly temperatures have meant planning a new look for my fall wardrobe. I love tomboy dressing and to me one of the most stylish things you can do is wear a pair of slouchy men’s trousers with nonchalance. I have decided to make slouchy trousers the basis of my wardrobe for the next few months! Pleat front trousers like these look absolutely chic with a tweedy overcoat and block heel ankle boots. It’s a very classic look that also happens to look totally of-the-moment. I’ve already got a navy pair of trousers, but I am also looking to buy a grey pair of trousers and a khaki pair!

Shopbop is starting their Black Friday Buy More Save More sale so now is your chance to grab a pair of great trousers that will see you through the winter! Below are some of my favorite picks.
