Our weather here has been vacillating between sunny pool days and crazy summer storms that make me want to hole up in a coffee shop with a cappuccino and a good book. Last night we were at the movies and the power went out because the storms were so violent! It was very surreal. I’ve been taking advantage of the weather to wear as many miniskirts as possible and I have a major craving for an Isabel Marant mini right now! It’d be perfect with a thin tee for summer but come fall, that skirt would be crazy good with a nubby turtleneck. I might have to make a move and get mine this week!

Summer Heat

Summer Heat

Hi again! I hope my stateside readers enjoyed a happy 4th yesterday. You may have noticed I’ve been absent for the last two weeks and for that I apologize. I’ve been having some health issues the last few months and I needed some time to rest and recover. I’m doing better now and incredibly eager to be back. I’ve been doing Sea of Shoes for ten years and have never taken that much time off. It was very hard to be away from my blog!

It’s now absolutely scorching hot here in Dallas and pants are out of the question. I was shlepping around town with my mom one day when we were drawn in to the Kate Spade boutique by the pretty dresses in the window. I fell hard for this peppery sundress as soon as I laid eyes on it. The fabric has so much body and the scallop detailing and tucked waist make this dress really sweet. It’s going to be my go-to for the rest of the summer, perfect to pack for some trips we have planned! I also picked up this adorable oversized shirtdress on sale and I’ve been living in that lately. So comfortable and breezy when the weather outside is so muggy and opressive.

Wearing Kate Spade sundress with vintage bangles and Furla minibag and Office of Angela Scott Mr. Winnie slides.

Staycation Wardrobe

Staycation Wardrobe

I mentioned that Jeff and I did a staycation this week. We stayed at the Belmont Hotel, a renovated 1940s motor hotel built by Charles Stevens Dilbeck in Oak Cliff. I am obsessed with the sprawling architecture of this hotel, it sets an intensely cinematic mood. The hotel is perched above all of Oak Cliff and you get a spectacular view into downtown Dallas.

I was very excited when ASOS offered me a few picks from their Holiday edit for the summer. If you’ve been following Sea of Shoes for a while you know I love ASOS! With our getaway and lots of pool time in mind, I packed a few swimsuits (like this leopard bikini from ASOS you might have seen on Instagram) and easy breezy skirts and crop tops to go to dinner in. I chose this gingham maxi skirt and crop top to wear as a set. I had to have it when I saw it! A two piece set is so easy when it comes to packing, and the gingham print felt era-appropriate for our retro staycation. I also am in love with this circular straw bag felt perfect for right now and was perfect for packing my beach towel.

This post was made in partnership with ASOS, as always all opinions are my own.

Holiday Mood

Holiday Mood

Jeff and I have a staycation planned this week and I’m already in the holiday mood! You may have noticed I’m not usually much of a “flat shoes, jeans, and sweater” kind of girl but a vacation can put me in that mood. I got these jeans last fall and now that it’s summer I’m grateful to have a great pair of white jeans in my rotation. These are the Rocket jeans by Citizens of Humanity, my holy grail denim fit. I own the Rocket in three different washes because the fit is so crazy good. They’re so comfortable and the perfect high rise, and Citizens does the best washes too.

I won this wide knit Perry Ellis 80s cropped sweater on eBay, it was 6 dollars I think. I definitely plan on bringing this to the pool to wear over my bikni when the sun starts to set! A wide knit sweater can feel so beachy, especially in a color like this!

Sandals are by Katharine Page, bag by Lotuff Leather, sunglasses by Rebecca Minkoff, and my silk scarf and bangles are vintage!

Leather with a Twist

Leather with a Twist

I’ve had a complicated relationship with leather jackets the last few years. While they are undeniably cool, classic, and mindlessly easy to style, the classic black leather jacket has been worn everywhere by everyone the last few years and I’ve kind of been wanting something a little bit different. I wouldn’t feel very “me” in a basic moto jacket. I owned no black leather jacket up until recently because I could never settle on something that felt just right for my style.

I’ve mulled this over for many months now.I almost pulled the trigger on ordering this super fun Mira Mikati leather jacket this winter (and now that it’s on sale, it’s extra tempting). Another option that struck me as having great potential was this amazing faux leather Shrimps coat with a cotton candy pink faux fur detachable collar. Upon exploring the world of non-basic leather jackets….there were so many fun options, why would you go basic right now?

I’ve been loving the rebirth of Coach the last few seasons and have been lusting after their gorgeous bags and jackets for a while now. I was very lucky to be invited to a dinner Coach is throwing here in Dallas tonight and I get to wear this beautiful Coach jacket for the event. When I put it on, I knew this was the kind of jacket I’ve been looking for! It’s just a bit more fun than the usual suspects. I feel like myself in this.

With this jacket I wore a Coach leather skirt with a vintage belt, a vintage Culture Club t-shirt, Golden Goose sneakers, vintage Keiselstein-Cord necklace, and Coach bag.

Below are some other killer options for upgraded leather jackets…I could go for any of these!

Belted Indigo

Belted Indigo

This jacket is a long time favorite of mine. I found it at Dolly Python here in Dallas, and another matching jacket in green and red. I wear them both constantly, sometimes belted over a nightgown to go to the grocery store! This belt is my favorite thing to wear with them. It’s an antique tapestry belt I found at Feathers Vintage in Austin. They pair so well together!

I have been having a really hard time finding a pair of jeans I like lately. Skinny jeans feel dated and I always wear vintage Levi’s 501s. I like these Grlfrnd jeans because they are a mix of both. The fit is crazy flattering! If you are thinking about ordering a pair, I took my normal size in them and they fit great. The label warns you they’ll stretch a lot but I have not had that problem wearing mine!

This bag is really special to me, it was a recent hand-me-down from my mom. It’s from Wunderkind’s Fall 2010 collection, a very special collection in my memory! My mom had found this bag on Yoox. I still pore over the runway images. What a great collection!

Sonia Rykiel Inspired

Sonia Rykiel Inspired

This is a look I put together with some recent vintage favorites. The skirt is 70s Celine and the top is vintage Sonia Rykiel. I’m a huge Sonia Rykiel fan and this outfit is definitely inspired by some of her signature looks. I love how she played with French classics in such a tongue-in-cheek way, and her use of disco-light shades of super saturated color. I added a beret and a tassel earrings just for fun with this. I’m not normally a fan of knife pleats but in the context of this skirt I love them, the shiny fabric makes the skirt play with the light in such a great way! Maybe I’ll have to change my mind about knife pleats now.
