Winter Moodboard

Winter Moodboard

Click on the items to shop the look!

Expanding on my last post…I’ve been having fun experimenting with more tailored mens looks this season and I love to use styling boards like these as inspiration. It’s pretty hard to go wrong with a sweater, tailored pants, a fabulous coat and a smart pair of brogues. That is an outfit formula I could riff off of endlessly! I’m really dying over this navy Carven coat. It’s so perfectly oversized and chic as can be.  One of my most beloved coats kind of died on me after years of wear, and I am heartbroken over it. Maybe this coat could take it’s place.

Menswear Inspired

Menswear Inspired

When I started making my fall moodboards for Sea of Shoes a few months ago, I found I kept going back to images of menswear inspired looks again and again. I was pulling images of Peter Lindbergh’s 90s shots of Linda Evangelista in tailored suits, and androgynous runway looks from Margaret Howell. I spent the next few weeks styling menswear inspired looks and selecting a few new pieces to pull into my wardobe. Now that the weather is perfect I have finally been able to wear some of these looks.  I really have had a lot of fun styling these looks! You’re much more minimal and restrained when you’re trying to emulate menswear which is fun exercise for a maximalist like me.

RED VINYL

RED VINYL

Happy Friday! This week has gone by so quickly. I’ve had these red vinyl Miss Selfridge pants on repeat and I’m surprised I could get so much wear out of such an extreme look. I’d been thinking about them for a few weeks and I finally made my move. They’re really fun to wear and the fit is pretty great on them too. I wore them yesterday with a vintage Courreges ribbed turtleneck, a vintage pinstripe blazer, crazy spiked Manolos I got on eBay five years ago, and my new A.P.C. bag from Tokyo!

Back from Tokyo

Back from Tokyo

Hello everyone! We are back from our honeymoon in Tokyo and so glad to be home. It was a really special trip. We stayed in a super cute AirBnB in Nakemeguro and explored the city for six days. It was a pretty laid back trip, despite fighting off typhoon wind and rain some days. Jeff had never been to Japan and that was a really magical discovering it together. My mom used to live there so I had gone several times as a teenager and it made me feel really nostalgic being back. I had been saving up a Tokyo clothing fund all year but I didn’t actually end up buying as much as I thought I would. We were too busy soaking up the sights and sounds. I really only came away with some gifts for friends, some skincare, and some shoes and a bag from an amazing A.P.C. discount store near our AirBnb. I am wearing the shoes and bag in the above photos. I am quite happy with my purchases. I still wear my clothes I bought from Tokyo so many years ago, these will always remind me of our honeymoon now!

Combat Boots & Mohair Shawl

Combat Boots & Mohair Shawl

Its been a little while! I apologize that I haven’t posted as much the last two weeks, we are super close to the wedding and things have been getting chaotic. We made some big changes last minute and now we are scrambling to make it all happen. I am so excited, I can’t wait to share the details but I’ve gotta keep our surprise under wraps. It’s actually been so much fun planning it all and I would say the process has been pretty laid back up until now! We are in crunch time until the big day October 21st.

I still have to share some photos from our short trip to Paris but I wanted to post this outfit as I’ve had a lot of requests for details on these boots. The boots are by the Frye Company. I had been really wanting these for a few months and couldn’t get my mind off of them. I held off for a while but eventually decided there was not any shoe I wanted more than these, so I caved and bought them. I am really glad that I did! I have been wearing them so much since I got them and they make everything you wear look 10x more cool. They remind me of a lot of Yohji Yamamoto’s boots.

Around this time of the year I pretty much only wear boots and I can tell these will be in heavy rotation. They have been so comfortable which has been really important to me lately. My best friend invited me to tag along to a fancy dinner with her tonight and I’m totally wearing these with a taffeta black skirt!

The dress I am wearing here is vintage, as is the mohair shawl and bangles. The bag is by Ferragamo, from a few years ago. As I mentioned, these combat boots are by Frye!

Fall Travel Moodboard

Fall Travel Moodboard

I am currently on my way to Paris and I am giddy with excitement to be returning to one of the most magical cities in the world. It’s even more special to be there with my soon-to-be husband three weeks before we get married! I had major summer wardrobe fatigue this year so I am overjoyed to be packing my coziest sweaters and favorite boots. I am lusting after an APC bag and I might splurge in Paris! So classic, you just can’t fail with one of their bags. Plus, look at these boots!

Our Trip to Charleston

Our Trip to Charleston

If you have been following me on Instagram, you’ll have seen I was in Charleston this week. We were visiting our friends, one of whom is going to be our wedding officiant. I can’t believe we’re only twenty eight days away now! Charleston is one of our favorite places and we’ve been really looking forward to this trip for a long time. We got to do so many of our favorite things but I still wish we had more time. A few readers asked me for some shopping and food recommendations so let me quickly mention a few of our favorites.

Fall Wardrobe Hero: A Neutral Coat

Fall Wardrobe Hero: A Neutral Coat

I am in complete autumn wardrobe mode already. It was 60 degrees this morning, which feels like the arctic tundra compared to our summer. I have been dreaming about cold weather outfits for weeks, so much so that I have already purchased my winter coat for the year. When I saw this Mara Hoffman coat on Shopbop I knew it would be selling out quickly so I made my move. I am very happy to make a purchase from a brand that advocates and practices ethical production and environmental sustainability in their clothes. You can listen to this great podcast talking with Mara about the evolution of her production practices. These past few weeks of natural disasters have me terrified about climate change and thinking about the changes I can make to be a more conscious consumer. Mara Hoffman is setting an amazing example for other brands right now, I hope we see more brands take a cue from her to integrate more sustainable practices in the near future.
