You might have noticed more lingerie on my Instagram lately. I have always been a fan of lingerie but only in recent years have I come to be an obsessive. I used to think lingerie was only for special occasions, and was happy to lounge and sleep in whatever slobby oversized tee shirts I got from men’s section at the thrift store. It took actually receiving a pair of beautiful pajamas as a gift (green silk ones from Equipment) to realize that nice loungewear can make a lazy day feel really elegant and luxurious.
BLACK VELVET
I don’t often dress in all neutrals but days on end of dreary weather can put me in the mood for grays and blacks. I wore this yesterday on a very foggy afternoon. I am trying to appreciate winter while it lasts, I know that I will be missing the opportunities to wear my favorite coats and boots. I got this adorable dress at & Other Storie when I was in Paris last month. I am already getting my wear out of it!
Wearing a vintage coat, & Other Stories black velvet dress with mock shirt, Marsell boots from several years ago, and Ferragamo Fiama bag.
Lace & Pinstripes
I have been in the mood for some softer looks lately. When I was in Tokyo for our honeymoon I saw some women wearing really cool deconstructed Victorian inspired looks in Harajuku and I’ve been thinking about them ever since. Lace and bows are very fun to wear but a little can go a long way. No one wants to end up looking too prissy! I chose to pair this pinstriped lace-trim blouse with a pair of wide leg 80s menswear inspired pants to make the look more modern.
I know I am going to get a lot of questions about these shoes, I always do when I post them. They are Christian Dior ‘Conquest’ pumps from last year and I think that they are still available for purchase from their boutiques (last I had heard). But there are a few new pairs on theRealReal for less, if you are lucky enough to find your size!
On Jewel Tones
I apologize for my absence the last two weeks, I got so sick with the flu and it took a long time to get over. It really was no fun at all. I really missed styling for the blog while I was out of commission. I could not wait to wear clothes that were not my pajamas and bed slips. While I was sick I watched some technicolor movies (like Ziegfeld Follies and Blithe Spirit) and the vivid color palettes were completely inspiring. I started thinking about the color palettes I wanted to dress in, and some of my favorite inspirations in fashion when it comes to color like Yves Saint Laurent muse Loulou de la Falaise and Kenzo’s vibrant early collections. I love to find clothes that are rich and saturated with color, they make such an amazing touching point for styling and are just so much fun to wear.
The Perfect Brogues
I hope all my stateside readers are enjoying the holidays! After Thanksgiving it has been non-stop traveling, party planning, and shopping so we can be ready for December 25th! Still with all the errands to run beforehand, we are so excited to share such a wonderful time of year with our loved ones. I’ve also managed to find a little gift for myself this year.
These shoes are a recent purchase from Farfetch and it took months to find them. Have you seen Ines de la Fressange’s book Parisian Chic Look Book? It’s a very stylish encyclopedia of outfit formulas built on French wardrobe basics. It is very inspiring and well done, and as always Ines imparts her own stylish twist on every look. She features several outfit ideas in the book styled with a pair of patent derby shoes and it got me hankering for a pair of my own. I have searched for months for my perfect pair, and found it is a difficult shoe to get right. I had tabled the decision for a few weeks when I came across this pair of shoes on Farfetch. They were absolutely perfect and I knew it was a purchase I would be very happy I made. These are definitely coming to Paris with me!
I fell back on a favorite outfit formula of mine for this look: mostly grey with a punch of red. I don’t know why but I find myself wearing this color combination all the time lately. The leopard jeans I am wearing are Rosie Huntington Whitley for Paige Denim, sold out now sadly but you might try eBay. Worn with a men’s button down, A.P.C. bag, Style Nanda coat, and the Saint Laurent shoes. The lipstick is Coloured Raine’s Vanity Raine matte lip paint.
Some Paris Recommendations
I have just gotten back from a trip to Paris, which you might have seen if you follow me on Instagram. It was a really wonderful trip and I am extra lucky because I got to spend it with my whole family this time! It was wonderful spending some quality time with them while we explored Paris together. We even got to see snow while we were there! I wanted to share some of our pictures and my outfits from the trip as well as share some of my recommendations.
CYBER MONDAY
Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving! I missed out on Black Friday because I was just so wiped out from hosting Thanksgiving. I’ve spent the weekend recouping with Netflix in bed and cruising sales online, getting ready to make my move for Cyber Monday. I’ve been holding off shopping for the most part lately, the long wait makes this so much more fun. Below are a few of the items I have my magpie eye on…
Nordstrom’s sale is really good because it is full of Junya Watanabe, Molly Goddard, Simone Rocha and Miu Miu. Also, it is an extra 20% off sale items today only!
Some favorites from Net-a-Porter’s infamous biyearly sale…in the danger zone now. I’ve been wanting a pair of these Attico shoes for months.
Shopbop is doing an EXTRA 35% off sale items!! So crazy. I love all of the R13 on sale right now!
Getting Ready For the Wedding
I am so excited to share some of our wedding images with you guys. I posted a few pictures on Instagram but I have some of the images shot by our talented wedding photographers Scott and Kristi Redman now. I wanted to let you in on the wedding prep process. I was really lucky to work with the talented hairstylists from Matrix on the day of our wedding. As you might remember, I went to Hilton Head, South Carolina a few months back to test wedding styles with Matrix stylist Danielle Keasling. That day was such a blast, it was the first moment that I really felt like a bride and got me so excited for wedding. We talked about my dress, our wedding colors, the setting, the weather, and started planning the hair accordingly.
