The Classics

The Classics

Those of you who have been reading Sea of Shoes for a long time know that I am a lifelong Ralph Lauren obsessive. Recently I reorganized everything in my closet and the volume of heritage Ralph Lauren pieces I have amassed over the years left me astounded. Fair-isle knits, many chiffon tea dresses, flannel prairie skirts, tailored menswear, heaps of tweeds…I didn’t realize how large my Ralph collection had become! Coming from a long line of Texans, I have always loved to see how he weaves references of the Southwest into his designs. My grandma, my mom and I are collectors of vintage concha belts and I’ve been pairing them with my pieces of Ralph Lauren for many years. This is a go-to look for me that touches on something very near to my heart.

One of the reasons I am a passionate collector of Ralph Lauren is for the timelessness of the designs. When something is designed with a nod to vintage classics, you know it will be a good buy because it will never look out of style. This is why I love Polo Ralph Lauren and always feel good about investing in a new piece. A shoulder bag with oversized classic hardware, a safari dress, classic equestrian boots…these are things I will be loving for a long time to come, and they’ll be right at home with the rest of my Polo Ralph Lauren.

Wearing Polo Ralph Lauren leather jacket, black lace-up dress, buckled equestrian ankle boots, and micro studded Lennox bag.

What to Buy From the Shopbop Sale Event

What to Buy From the Shopbop Sale Event

Happy humpday guys! Shopbop is having their big 2018 sale event and it’s a good time to take advantage of it as we are heading into spring/summer. I know I’m dreaming of warmer weather and maybe a little staycation by a pool soon. I need a new swimsuit and I am loving the classic and flattering one pieces by Karla Colletto.

If you like the jeans I am wearing here, then definitely check out the selection of Moussy denim while the sale is going on! I have been wearing mine so much that I am already thinking about another pair.

Here are some of my favorite picks from the sale right now!

Music That We Love + Our Wedding Playlist

Music That We Love + Our Wedding Playlist

Inspired by our sweet friends Christina and Robert from the New Darlings who just did a great post about the music that shaped their relationship, here are the songs and albums that have meant the most to Jeff and me over the years. Jeff and I are both very passionate about music and while we have a lot in common in our musical interests, we still have very different tastes. It’s always interesting to me to see where we overlap in our love of music. I also have the playlist from our wedding to share at the end of the post. We’ve been listening to a lot lately and it brings back such great memories of that night for us.

8 Weekend Denim Ideas + a Word on the Perfect Jeans

8 Weekend Denim Ideas + a Word on the Perfect Jeans
Happy Friday everyone! I don’t know about you but this week felt like it lasted a month. There must be something to this Mercury-in-retrograde business. I am so ready for a relaxing weekend. I am really excited to bring you this post, we’ve been working on it all week and I hope it gives you some inspiration to head into the weekend! Whoo hoo, lazy outfits!
A trench with a twist + destroyed denim + sweatshirt + white sneakers
There have been updated twists on the classic trench all over the runways the last few seasons, which is awesome because that is a look that translates really well to real life! It’s hard to go wrong styling a great coat like this, but worn with your favorite lived-in denim and white sneaks on the weekend, it’s a no-brainer. These Moussy jeans I’m wearing are my current favorite lazy day denim.

How To: The Messy Undone Bun

How To: The Messy Undone Bun

Happy Monday guys! I’ve been wanting to do more hair tutorials lately, as I often get requests for them. Doing my own hair for all of our photoshoots for Sea of Shoes over the last twelve years, I’ve learned a lot of styling tricks along the way. One of the things I always wanted to master was the perfect messy bun. As simple as it may seem, I think anyone who has attempted one for the first time knows it isn’t as easy as it looks. The messy bun I do when I wash my face in the evening, for instance, is not at all similar to the perfectly disheveled buns you see on Pinterest or street style stars. It takes some finessing to achieve the artfully undone messy bun.

Rome and Florence Lookbook

Rome and Florence Lookbook

As you might have seen on Instagram, Jeff and I were in Italy last week for a quick vacation. We really enjoyed ourselves, it was such a whirlwind trip and I wish we could have stayed longer. We took so many photos while we were there, I wanted to do a round up of some of my outfits on our trip. Here are some of my favorite looks while we were in Rome and Florence.

The Happiest Color

The Happiest Color

It seems like the last few weeks have been mostly rainy days. It even rained most of the time we were in Italy! I was a little bummed to come home to even more rain. I picked this outfit in defiance of the gloom and doom of the forecast. Pink is the happiest color to me, and I have been dying to wear this satin blazer I picked up from & Other Stories while I was in Rome. It’s a really versatile styling piece, surprisingly. It’s an easy thing to throw on with a vintage tee, faded denim, and fun pumps. I’m glad this particular shade of pink is having a moment, it just cheers me up looking at it.

The skirt is by Au Jour le Jour, and I got it from VOD Boutique here in Dallas about three years ago. The sneakers are by Premiata and you can get them here. The striped sweater I am wearing underneath is by Calle Del Mar, and is produced in the USA in women owned factories. It’s an amazing riff on 70’s athletic wear, I am going to be living in this for a long time to come.

THE GRAPE UNGARO

THE GRAPE UNGARO

I was very excited to receive this vintage Ungaro coat in the mail! I won it in an eBay auction. I’ve been really loving this shade of purple recently, it feels perfect for now. I threw it on with a denim mini, a rock tee, teal tights and leopard pumps to go see a movie on Sunday. Maybe its a crazy combination, but it was loads of fun to wear! I’m crazy for anything Ungaro. Always the best prints, colors, and fabric. I was lucky to snag this coat for a steal, I’ll definitely be wearing this come fall.
