hope you all had a lovely valentines!

HAPPY VALENTINES DAY EVERYONE!

I'm a day late but I hope your Valentines was lovely. I had a lovely real Valentines day yesterday but this morning I had a Valentines brunch with my mom and my sister and my dad.

Sorry for the poorly photographed family portrait.
Our yucky winter lawn looks drab against our Valentines ensembles today…but spring is in the air and I can hardly wait.
We went to our favorite cafe and then my mom and I tried to check out Fourty Five Ten. They were closed! Bummer. They had some wonderful things in their windows.

Hanging out outside of Fourty Five Ten. I love this brocade rayon skirt so much! I got it at Silver Screen Vintage in Tulsa, Oklahoma. This might be my favorite skirt.

Emilio & Denise & wearing my new Givenchy’s

A while ago I mentioned I was babysitting a Bullmastiff puppy (and that he was quite a handful)…the puppy in question is named Emilio and my dad has been fostering him for about a month. Today he's going a new home and we have to say goodbye. Emilio's a loveable guy. I took some pictures to remember him by!He is extremely difficult to photograph because he never stops moving and loves to give sloppy kisses to the camera….
Haha I love this picture! He had just leaned over to give Denise (on the left) a kiss and this is after they pulled away…so cute.

Of course I can't leave out Denise…she's the nicest dog I've ever known…and she is much more photogenic than Emilio.

I tried to get Denise to take a picture with me, but no such luck.
So I took one on my own.
Urban Outfitters cape, Forever 21 net leggings, bandage skirt by The Row underneith, armload of bracelets and my mom's Omega Seamaster watch, and my new Givenchy wedges
(William identified them as S/S 07…he would know! Thanks!)
Have a nice Thursday :)

80’s Kenzo

I was so happy when I saw this-Gius posted it on The Fashion Spot-I wish I could find more pictures of vintage Kenzo. What a beautiful campaign-far more beautiful than anything I see in magazines these days I think…

INSANE Givenchy’s from two seasons ago??

I would have never known about these shoes if it wasn't for a very very helpful and wonderful commenter….someone left me a comment about two weeks ago reccomending I check out these Givenchy's on YOOX. I can't find the comment now-but a HUGE THANK YOU to this sweet person.
I never remember to check YOOX as thoroughly as I should but I certainly will from now on-aren't these insane? Who even knew these shoes existed? I had never seen them before…I guess there are always shoes that don't show on the runway…?
The bulbous wedge heel covered in straps is out of some sci-fi movie's wardrobe. I have high standards for 'crazy' when it comes to shoes but these are up there. They're remarkably comfortable, I wore them on Saturday from morning till night.

INTERVIEW: MATT BOVAN of MKNB

INTERVIEW: MATT BOVAN of MKNB
I came to learn about MKNB when I was perusing Lookbook.nu a while back and came across a striking image of a leggy peroxide blonde kicking around a forest in this incredible, other-worldy outfit made entirely out of knit sweaters.

A little internet stalking later and I found out that this vision in knit was Matt Bovan, a very young fashion student working on an amazing knitwear line called MKNB.
I'm going to let the pictures speak for themselves-Matt certainly has created a compelling aesthetic for his line and no doubt his talent will take him far. Matt has just finished his stint at the Leeds College of Art & Design (where not surprisingly, he won student of the year!) and is applying to Central Saint Martins in Knitwear-how very very exciting! Best of luck, Matt.

How did you get started making clothes?

Ever since I was a child I have known that I want to make clothes! I have made all my own clothes since 2005 and really it’s all I have wanted to do in life! I honestly don’t know what I would do if I didn’t make my own! I think I’d buy second hand, vintage and possibly some designer bits, but my clothes fit my personality 100%! I love working on all my ‘personal’ stuff outside college, even though I’m studying fashion, my own collections give me a release.

Mknb9

How do you make your clothes? Are they recycled out of old sweaters?
I make my own patterns for leggings, tops and dresses and I have 4 or 5 knitting machines that I use for knitwear and I have been using them for about 2 years.
I love knitwear with an insane passion – I don’t know why but there is just something about it! I love the feel and I could honestly live in entirely knitted clothes.

Why sweaters? What is so compelling about them to you?
Knitwear and jumpers are so easy to wear, can look so effective and have an androgynous feel. They mould to body shape and give the wearer incredible movement! I love to create clothes that people can mix with other stuff and also just wear on their own to look effortless – I feel they have versatility.

What will MKNB be like in 2009?

I’m so excited for where I’m taking MKNB in 09, the knitwear is going to a whole other level! I’m creating whole new patterns, new techniques and being able to express them in a whole new way. I have figured out how to incorporate words within my knitwear – I love it! Science and history and pipe-smoking 18th century fellows are my heroes at this point in time! I’m so excited to start it – Jane I will keep you posted!! I feel this is my best yet, but it’s all top-secret at the moment!

What is inspiring your Light Voyager collection?

Light Voyager was my first ‘real’ collection and the inspiration came from all these ideas in my head I had gathered. I wanted a fierce, tribal character, who travelled the globe. All my clothes seem to connect with nature and Light Voyager was a mix of neon bright coral with all these darker colours and textures. I also wanted the clothes to be very wearable and quite fun. The name was created just from mind mapping and it hit me in a moment – this is how I create all my collection names – I just know what fits!!

Who would you like to see wear your clothes?

All sorts of people! I love it when my friends wear my clothes – they all have this unique style, which I love, and they all interpret my clothes differently. If I had the opportunity for a celebrity or someone famous to wear my clothes I would like Björk or Kate Bush to wear them, but really anyone who appreciates me designs: if people are original and wear the clothes because they enjoy them, you can tell instantly – people have to wear the clothes, not the clothes to wear the people!

Matt, thank you for doing this interview and we are so excited to see the path that MKNB takes.
Matt tells me he has just gotten back from London and has lots of new research and inspiration for his new collection-can't wait to see the results!
Keep up with MKNB by friending him on Myspace!

Trying on my new Rugby Ralph Lauren jacket

Trying on my new Rugby Ralph Lauren jacket

So I spent this gloomy Sunday playing around in a set that my mom and I constructed out of odds and ends from our garage. Yeah kinda nerdy but whatever…Thank you so much mom for being my patient photographer in this little photo session, mom.
Our set kind of has the feel of an explorer's tent…LOL. Like a Walmart photo studio but with an explorer backdrop.
Yesterday I was in Rugby Ralph Lauren and happened to spy the most amazing red military jacket on their sales rack-what a score! It's incredibly well made and *so cool*
Definitely one of those pieces thats easy to throw on with anything…see some of what I came up with for it…

Worn with skirt from Anthropologie, Rugby Ralph Lauren hat, Margiela cut out boots, lots of bangles
These pants were part of an Oscar de la Renta suit found at a thrift store-a lucky find. Worn with Rugby Ralph Lauren hat and Dries van Noten sandals.

Worn with Hysteric Glamour jeans (borrowed from mom), Ann Demeulemeester laceup boots, and a Zara top.
Worn with an old Banana Republic dress and a Christopher Ross antelope belt stolen from my mom's belt collection.
Shelley and Staci were big fans of the set up, as you can probably tell…

I had to keep shooing them away the whole time I was taking these…hahaha.
My sister was so kind as to take a turn at modeling it-thank you Carol!
Yesterday when my mom and I were at Rugby Ralph Lauren we saw this dress and immediately thought of Carol-doesn't she look so cute in it? Worn with Made Well boots and tartan knee highs.
I can tell that I am really really going to enjoy this jacket!

They’re here!!

Today I was so excited because at long last (the wait was killin' me…okay Browns ships really fast but still…) my MARTIN MARGIELA CUT OUT BOOTS arrived!
These. are. so. special. Aren't they even prettier on?
Obviously I had to wear them right away…even if it was just to eat mexican food with mom.
My outfit nothing too special but…American Apparel tee, Joie satin pants, Richard Chai shearling and suede aviator jacket.
^I covet these jeans my mom is wearing…they are some of my all time favorites. Oh and also her Miu Mius.
Well it's Friday night and I think I'm just going to stay in and watch movies…with my Margiela boots…we're so tight now.
I have bought way too many shoes :( I am bad at managing my money….but more on the other shoes later.
