The Year of the Clog

FashionShoes
Jul 19, 20199 Comments

Why do clogs feel so right, right now? Maybe because sensible shoes feel grounding in insane times like these. Maybe they are the natural progression of the ugly fashion shoe. Clogs are inherently funny, wearing them shows you don’t take yourself too seriously. Whatever the reason, clogs are gaining momentum and finally getting the respect they have long deserved. Cult clog brand No. 6 has expanded into a full-fledged store, a one-stop shop for your clog lifestyle. Fashion archive market Heroine posted an ode to the Olsen’s love of clogs, especially shearling-lined Birkenstock clogs. I feel a satisfaction I cannot explain in seeing celebrities wearing clogs. For years I have obsessed on a picture of Sarah Jessica Parker wearing her Swedish Hasbeen clogs with socks, a chunky cardigan, cuffed jeans to go pick up her kids from school. She just looks so cool, the clogs give off real IDGAF energy. I have recently become aware of the online cult that is @TheClogLife founded by author Lauren Mechling, a place where people are encouraged to explore these deeper feelings about clogs. It’s a clog life, and someone has to live it. I don’t see why it shouldn’t be us!

Lol yasssss. Clogs are so cute on others. Sadly I’ve got clog PTSD from wearing those Candies with the buckle strap across the top as a kid. I’d go up and down our marble stairs to make them make noise until eventually my dad throw them away. ?

They are all hand painted by me and I hope to continue with this blogging style in the near future. It was a really fun project! Thank you for the compliment. x

Hi – Longtime lurker/fan (in non-creepy way, honest!) here…just want to thank you for the time and effort you put into curating this beautiful blog. It’s inspiring, beautiful, and showcases a unique talent for styling. Just wanted you to know that it’s much appreciated and adds so much joy to people’s day. Hi Jane,

I really loved this article, you did a great job styling these clogs, and also loved your little drawings :)

I’ve been reading your blog since 2010 or 2011 I think, and I felt the original SoS vibes through this article. Truly admire the fact that you stayed true to yourself !

    Love from France
