Vintage & Chloe Boots on Sea of Shoes

Vintage & Chloe Boots on Sea of Shoes

Aren’t these boots are the best! I got them on Yoox marked down. The oxblood color is perfect for the pallette I’m into for fall. I’m wearing a vintage skirt, blouse, and eelskin belt with them. The gorgeous bag is Lotuff’s new Tripp bag. It is the perfect basic little purse! P.S. Wearing the NARS Audacious lipstick in Olivia that I blogged about last week. This lip color is everything.

NEW BEAUTY FAVORITES

I like to switch up my skincare, hair, and makeup routine every once in a while and over the past few months spent experimenting I have become hooked on some new products. Some of these have been serious game changers for me, so I thought I’d share some of my beauty favorites as of late!

Starting left to right, top to bottom:

1. NARS Audacious lipstick in Olivia is the most gorgeous 70s orangey-brown-red lip for this season. As a redhead, I like a very warm red lip. Pretty sure a tube of this will be in my purse for as long it is being made.

2. Chanel Camelia de Plumes Highlighting Powder is a holy grail product for me and it makes me cry a little that it is a limited edition item. This beautiful powder imparts a soft glow that will make your whole face look as though its bathed in moonlight. When I saw it at the Chanel counter I couldn’t resist trying it because of the pretty packaging, but when I saw the difference in my face after trying it I had to buy it. Putting it on everyday has become the most luxurious part of my makeup routine. I also use it as eyeshadow and highlighter for the inner corner of my eyes.

3. Mad Hippie Exfoliating Serum is exactly the step my skincare routine was missing. I tried this when I was staying at my mom’s house and I really liked it. It helped clear up some spots I was having right away. I got a bottle of my own at Whole Foods. This is a pretty strongly acidic serum so I’m not sure I’d recommend it for extremely sensitive skin. It is fantastic for lightening sun spots, which I am so prone to! I use it every other night and spend a few minutes massaging it into my face before my night cream.

4. Hourglass’s Mineral Veil Primer has become a product that I can’t do without. Most primers are too sticky or slippery for my taste, but this hits all marks for me. I love how it brings a nice translucency to my complexion. It also makes your makeup waterproof, and it stays on all day long. As in, be prepared to spend a little extra time washing your face at night.

5. Kevin Murphy’s Antigravity Spray is a great product for reviving second or third (or um, fourth) day hair. I use it like a restyling spray, I scrunch it in for volume and to soak up oil. It is incredibly lightweight and brushable. My friend and hairdresser Jessica turned me on to this. She has perfect piecey bedhead hair everytime I see her, so I asked what dry shampoo she used. Turns out she doesn’t use dry shampoo, just this! I’ve been using it for a week and I’m super obsessed with it.

6. Make Up For Ever’s Super Matte Powder in Pale Pink is a godsend for those with deathly pale complexions like my own. A makeup artist turned me on to this product. It does the most beautiful job of brightening and evening my ruddy skintone without washing me out. Instead of a brush I use a velour puff like Laura Mercier’s to apply this only to the T-zone. It gives such a creamy “English Rose” finish to the skin.

7. Leonor Greyl’s Huile de Palme is something I’ve recommended before but it bears repeating. If you have fine hair that snags easily, this will do wonders for your ends. I know it sounds a bit crazy but I swear a few months of using this has brought a lot of natural wave back to my hair. This is used as a pre-shampoo treatment, so I massage this oil into my ends about an hour before I wash my hair. The difference it has made in my hair makes the price completely worth it.

and lastly, though not technically a beauty product…puh-ehr tea! We all know that fermented foods do amazing things for your skin and body, which is why puh-ehr tea is getting so much attention lately. I have come to really enjoy it’s smoky flavor. I’ve traded in my usual cup of coffee for a healthy cup of cardamom puh-ehr in the mornings. I don’t even have to compromise on  my caffeine, a cup of puh-ehr will give you a surprisingly good  buzz.

These are the things that have worked for me and made a difference in my beauty routine lately. I had fun sharing them with you, I hope this list had a few new tips to offer!

This was an outfit from a few weeks ago…this amazing skirt was a thriftstore find, I love the length! Pretty excited to be wearing these old Margiela shoes, they haven’t gotten out in such a long time. Margiela does the coolest shoes.

Wearing an Ann Sofie Back asymmetrical sweater with a vintage skirt, vintage scarf, and Margiela heels.

Wearing a Stella McCartney blazer I found on Yoox with a Madewell belt and vintage jeans (similar pair here), a pebbled foldover clutch, and Manolo Blahnik BB pumps. I love how a good belt can make even a blazer and boyfriend jeans look feminine and polished!

Happy Halloween! I’ve been waiting to share these Salem-esque shots from our trip to Cibolo Creek until today. I feel like the witch from Hansel and Gretel with this scarf and hat! God, that story always freaked me out when I was a kid because up until that point I had no idea that witches were also cannibals. I’m wearing my most favorite ever Ann Demulemeester boots from six years ago. I love these so much, the curved hooflike stacked heel of these boots really does it for me. Ann D still does some cool boots with this heel, they’re so good.

Worn with a Tao Comme des Garcons scarf, silk midi skirt, and leather elbow gloves.

NY SHOPPING GUIDE

I’m a creature of habit when I’m in NY, and I always return to my favorite places. I was so excited when LoveGold asked me to style a few pieces from jewelry designers seen in their NY SHOPPING GUIDE (where they give you the scoop on the best places to shop for amazing jewelry in the city), so while thinking back on my recent trip during NYFW, I decided to share some other places and restaurants near and dear to me as well. I’m happy to say that we discovered a few new gems to add to my list. Starting off with my home base…

nyc

The Soho Grand Hotel is my home-away-from-home when I’m in New York. You won’t find more thoughtful and personal guest service anywhere. I love being here during fashion week for the people watching and I love that they are so dog friendly. When we bring our chihuahua Kim they always send her a big bed and a bone twice her size. There is also a wonderful fenced-in dog park to walk your dog.

One of the reasons I love staying at the Soho Grand Hotel is because of its proximity to IF boutique. IF Boutique on Grand street is the store my dreams are made of. Home to the best selection of Yohji Yamamoto, Comme des Garcons, Junya, Rick Owens, Undercover, and many brands I have never heard of before. Their eye for buying here is flawless. I don’t love to shop but a trip to IF for me is an incredibly special experience.

When I’m in New York and I miss Mexican food, I love being around the corner from Papatzul. They have great margaritas, an amazing happy hour, and the ‘Papatzul’ special (boiled egg enchiladas) is not to be missed. Yep, definitely go for the happy hour.

I’m a Korean beauty junkie and if I have the free time while I’m in town, I always head to the Face Shop to load up on my favorite Korean beauty products. I always get some for my mom and sister too! Stock up on sheet masks, they’re great for travel-weary skin.

One discovery Jeff and I made on our trip last time was Death and Company’s speakeasy style bar. It was arguably the highlight of our trip. We went early, having no idea what to expect. Upon entering we were enveloped in darkness, the only light being a few candles scattered along the marble bar. The cocktails were phenomenal, the music was fantastic, and we were so moved by the fried biscuits we enjoyed there that we made our own version as soon as we got home. We had such a good time we contemplated going two nights in a row.

While we were in New York we visited the Highline Hotel to have dinner with our friends. I love their patio and the old school atmosphere there. The menu is small and they specialize in oysters and champagne. Yum. The hotel looks adorable as well, I may have to try it sometime.

I love going to ABC Kitchen to enjoy their beautiful home good store as well as their fabulous restaurant. Their cafe is also perfect for meetings and quick coffees. Jeff and I went a bit crazy in their kitchen department last time, and have put all of our ABC finds to very good use. See my cute little wooden spoon below I used to drizzle honey over my honey pie. Perfect for buying gifts while you’re in town!

The beautiful gold jewelry I’m wearing in this post is Kismet by Milka, courtesy of LoveGold, all available in NYC at Fragments. Check out their NYC shopping guide here – it  has all the best spots from vintage boutiques to luxe jewelry houses!  I hope this list helps you if you have plans for NY in your future. Now I’m nostalgic and want to go back!
