Perfect Dress Alert-from ASOS!

FashionOutfits
May 27, 20194 Comments

I got this pale yellow wrap dress when ASOS had their 25% off sale last week. I am so glad that I got it, the puckered lightweight fabric is perfect for the balmy summer weather and I really like the empire waist and swingy shape. I had a birthday dinner for my best friend at my house this weekend and I wore this dress. It was so nice to have something pretty to wear that was so comfortable and breezy. I wish this dress was available in more colors. I would buy it!

I always get questions about these shoes everytime I post them. They are L’Autre Chose, and I got them on sale last year from Yoox. Here are some similar styles, since these shoes are no longer available. I love a low mary jane heel.

How I Get Big Hair

BeautyGuidesHair
May 10, 20197 Comments

When I posted this picture on Instagram, a lot of people messaged me asking how I did my hair like this so I thought I would show you how. You can watch my IGtv episode to see how I did this hairstyle and read on below to break down the products I like to use and why. I have had a lifelong obsession with big hair. Maybe it’s because I am from Texas, maybe it’s because I am obsessed with sixties hairstyles. Probably it’s a little bit of both.

My hair texture is actually very fine and quite straight, so it takes a lot of products and tricks to make it big and voluminous.  Here is what I use to cheat big hair.

Click on the items to shop!

I am feeling excited about summer this week and I’ve been doing a little shopping to prepare. I am looking for silk tops, cute boxy jeans, strappy sandals, and for new scents too. It gets so sticky and hot here in Texas, I am trying to look for lightweight clothes I can pair with killer jewelry like this Chanel chain belt for impact!

Elvis Goes to A Weight Loss Ranch…for Models Only!

I feel like I’ve been getting a lot of cosmic signs from the universe lately that I need to spend some time thinking about Elvis, so I have been watching a lot of Elvis movies lately (and reading Elvis biographies and listening to Elvis and music tangential to Elvis). Elvis was extremely stylish, impossibly good looking and could wear clothes like no other rock star really ever could. Most of his movies revolve around him being surrounded by extremely hot babes, so there is plenty of fashion inspiration to be found in them. I probably will be doing more than one Fashion in Film feature on Elvis movies for this reason.

As I was perusing his filmography one day, I stumbled on the trailer for Tickle Me (1965). The trailer tries to sell you on the idea of Elvis as a champion rodeo rider (saloon crooner by night) but you don’t get to see him ride a horse or a bull at much at all. That’s because this is really a movie about Elvis working on a weight loss ranch for models and celebrities.

When I was watching the trailer for Tickle Me, I thought to myself “Why on earth is there a remote ranch populated only by beautiful young women in bikinis and Elvis?”. That was a silly question! Of course, it was a weight loss ranch, and it is explained early on that this weight loss ranch is for models and celebrities only. So a weight loss ranch for women who don’t need to lose weight at all. Makes sense. It’s a perfect excuse for Elvis to be surrounded by perfect 10s.

There is some business about buried treasure and a haunted hotel with some Scooby Doo level hi-jinks. Jocelyn Lane plays Elvis’s love interest and she is adorable. There are two scenes where she wears chic pajamas and one scene where she wears a to-die-for split orange and yellow dress. Elvis wears all these fantastic pastel western shirts and pants, and no one could make them look as good as he did. At the ranch, they drive these cool pastel Jeeps to get around. This was a movie Elvis made in a hurry to pay off some debts to the IRS and it shows, but you know what…it’s still a really fun movie! All of the musical bits were great, Elvis really inhabits his persona in these. One of the early scenes where he sings at a saloon and drives all of the women wild to the chagrin of their male companions is probably my favorite. I think what I most enjoyed was that this was a movie made on the premise of Elvis working at a weight loss ranch for models and celebrities, a premise so absurd and delightful that this movie could not possibly disappoint me.

Tickle Me (1965) can be rented on iTunes or Amazon for your viewing pleasure.

This Mirror Changed the Way I Do Makeup

BeautyMakeup
Apr 29, 20194 Comments

This makeup mirror has turned out to be one of the most game-changing beauty purchases I have ever made. I purchased the RIKI Skinny Lighted Vanity Mirror after seeing Katie Jane Hughes talk about it on Instagram a few times. I really only purchased this mirror to help me film makeup tutorials for IGTV (this mirror is the same one Katie uses for her amazing Instastory tutorials). When the mirror arrived and I turned it on, I was amazed to see my face in such close detail. The first time I applied my makeup using this mirror I was shocked at how professional my makeup looked afterward. The difference was huge. My foundation looked flawless because I could see all of the tiny discolorations on my face, and I ended up using less product than I normally do because I was mostly spot concealing. My eyeshadow was perfectly blended and buffed and I was able to apply my red lip with expert precision. You can see everything in this mirror, but in a flattering way, not a terrifying way.

Immediately I was obsessed with my RIKI Skinny mirror. It was not going to be just for IGtv filming, though it has certainly come in handy for that purpose. Now I pull my RIKI mirror out (it takes seconds to assemble and stores easily) whenever I want my makeup to look really great, or especially if I want to pluck my eyebrows. The LED lights in this mirror are seriously powerful and there are five levels of illumination. Level one is plenty bright for me but level five is bright enough to be seen from outer space. It has a magnifying attachment I’ve yet to use, and comes with an attachment to hook your phone up to should you wish to. It also charges with a USB cord really quickly, no batteries necessary. Check it out, it’s a worthy investment if you are looking to improve your application technique!

I got mine on Nordstrom.com.

My Perfect New Weekend Trousers

FashionOutfits
Apr 17, 20193 Comments

Sea New York was kind enough to send me these beautiful quilted patch trousers and I can’t get over how beautifully made they are. They are made of lightweight cotton twill, with soft lining and have quilted silk patches on them. Pure luxury to wear, as comfortable as sweatpants. I have always been a big fan of Sea and love my pieces I’ve bought from them, so I am thrilled to have another. I am especially happy to have made this fantastic color comination discovery: red-orange and navy. This rust colored blouse I am wearing is 1970s with a Chinese label, and it perfectly matches these butter-soft orange Chie Mihara sandals I bought on Yoox last month. A word to the wise on these shoes: they are suited for very narrow feet, those with normal width feet should take a full size up in this shoe.

I am planning to wear these navy pants with inside out grey athletic sweatshirts and a cream 1930s linen shawl scarf, with high top sneakers. I don’t have the high top sneakers yet, but I have been thinking about getting a pair of high top Converse for a while so this may be my excuse. I also have a pair of Celine birkenstock type wooly sandals that would be great with these pants, especially with a cozy turtleneck for winter!
