I am totally obsessed with this weirdo 80s-does-40s surrealist dress. It’s a bit hard to tell from these pictures, but it printed with pumpkin-headed characters s riding on unicycles and juggling bowling pins. So amazing! I bought the dress from The End Yucca Valley at a Current Affair in LA last month. She has the best eye for vintage. I had to wear this dress with my weird banana necklace, that has leather fringe and coins all over it.It seems like I always pick up a piece of amazing jewelry every time I go to the Genesis Shelter Benefit thrift store. That is where most of the jewelry I am wearing here came from!

Wearing vintage dress with vintage jewelry, a straw hat, and raffia tote with Dries Van Noten pink shoes.

I bought this fringe Polo bag some time last year and it has become a favorite in my bag rotation. I love to wear anything with movement: voluminous skirts, anything with tiers, and always lots of fringe. Being from Texas, I love the western details too.

Wearing Polo Ralph Lauren fringe bag a leather miniskirt from H&M, a vintage plaid shirt, Celine sunglasses, and Alaia heels.

I’ve had this skirt since I was thirteen years old and wear it constantly. I found it at a flea market in a pile of 50s deadstock. I guess there is a point that you should part with your most well-loved clothes…but this skirt has spent 10 of it’s almost 70 years on earth with me. That has to mean something! I’m sure if you are a long time reader of Sea of Shoes…you would recognize this skirt. I’ve used it countless times for so many looks.

With a full skirt like this, a tutu is a must. I wear a lot of 50s full-skirted looks so I own a few different crinolines and tulle tutus of various levels of fullness. It seems a bit ridiculous to own multiple tutus, but skirts like these are nothing without an incredible tutu underneath. I highly recommend the tutu as an investment piece. Sometimes you need that drama!

Wearing a 50s full skirt (similar skirt here) with a tutu underneath, an off-the shoulder ruffle crop top, Stuart Weitzman heels, and Dolce and Gabanna bag.

I got these jeans from Collection LA when I was at A Current Affair. Orange tabs with a perfect fit! I have been living in these. I wore them yesterday to run some errands and debuted a gorgeous new baby-bag from Strathberry. I love the robin’s egg color. Had to show you guys! Worn with my favorite Dior pumps.

The Quest for the Dress

The Quest for the Dress

Recently I had a cocktail event to attend and realized my wardrobe was seriously lacking in the classic LBD department. My closet is replete with over-the-top 80’s pouf dresses and 50’s novelty skirts….but everything felt too loud for the occasion in question. I already feel like a fish out of water at black-tie affairs, and I really wanted to be comfortable in my skin for the occasion. I began the quest for the dress that would look perfect not just for that evening, but something that would feel timeless and chic for years to come.

I saw this Tibi dress pop up on Net-a-Porter and decided to go for it. I loved the flowing shape and one shoulder neckline.  I did not realize until the dress arrived that it can be worn so many ways. You can leave it loose, like I did with my sandals for daytime, or you can tie it around your waist for a more dressed up look. You can make it into a halter dress too, actually. I am very, very happy with my purchase. This is a forever dress!

For my daytime look I’m wearing: Tibi dress with Giuseppe Zanotti sandals, Celine sunglasses, vintage earrings, and Ferragamo bag.

For the evening look I’m wearing: Tibi dress with Dior pumps, Nathalie Trad clutch, and Dior pumps.

STOCKYARDS STAYCATION

Western

On Thursday we took a little staycation in Fort Worth. I love staying at the historic Stockyards Hotel there. I stayed there about two years ago when I was shooting a project for Lucchesse boots…it was so much fun and I have been dying to do it again! I was inspired to get out some of my favorite pieces that have a bit of western flair to them.  This hand painted belt is on loan from my mom…it is pretty much to die for.

Wearing a vintage 70’s denim shirt with a vintage hand painted belt, 3×1 fringe denim jeans, McQ heels, and Polo Ralph Lauren fringe bag.

One of the main reasons we wanted to go was to have dinner at Clay Pigeon. We had a truly magical meal there. They do an amazing house made charcuterie and fresh pasta…if you are ever in the DFW area you must go, it was so charming.

I have more pics to post from our trip soon! xx

The yoked waist on this skirt is so ridiculously 80s…I love it!! It’s almost too much but not quite. My mom actually snagged this for me on eBay last summer. So very cute on a hot summer day.

Wearing vintage skirt with a plunge neckline bodysuit ,vintage jewelry, Katharine Page sandals, and a picnic bag.
