70s does Victorian

70s does Victorian

I have a pretty big collection of “70’s does Edwardian/Victorian” clothing. I talked a little bit a few weeks ago about my obsession with era revivals…I love the influence of 1940’s and 1880’s on 1970’s trends. There were so many designers who did it so well! Last night my fiancee and I rewatched Picnic At Hanging Rock, a haunting 1970s Australian film set at the turn of the century in a girl’s school in the outback. The costuming in it is insane, if you want some “70’s does Edwardian” inspiration.

I’m wearing some cheap thrill eBay purchases here. The top is 70s/early 80s Laura Ashley, and the skirt is a designer I’m trying to collect at the moment. This Bill Blass coat is something my mom gave me years ago, she got it at Genesis thrift store here in Dallas. It is seriously my favorite coat of all time! The print and hang are so beautiful. The bag is my Ferragamo Fiamma, and the earrings are Dolce & Gabbana.

These shoes…don’t even get me started about how much I adore them. They are by Rochas, and they are everything the period-drama loving nerd in me dreams about. I’ve had them for a few years now and everytime I wear them I just wish I had another pair, so as to never worry about scuffing these up. I’m crazy! But seriously, Rochas…please re-do these boots soon!

I went hunting online for more granny boots last night to see if I could find any I love as much as these boots. There are some amazing options and a lot of them are on sale!

Corset Love

Corset Love

Happy New Year everybody!! I hope you had a great NYE and the new year holds many exciting things for you. As much fun as the holidays were, I am ready to get a head start on this year’s upcoming projects. There is so much in store ahead!

My 2017 got off to a slightly anticlimactic start as I am just getting over a stomach virus from hell. It’s apparently the one that is shutting down school systems lately, so if you haven’t gotten it yet, be warned! It was no joke, I think I lost about 5 lbs in a three day window. It feels great being able to eat food again!

I’ve been repeating this outfit lately. The belt is vintage Yves Saint Laurent and when I unpacked it during the move it inspired me to style a few looks with it! Here I am wearing it with an oversized white button-down by a Korean brand called Minitz purchased at Elements Boutique, Junya Watanabe jeans, Jimmy Choo kitten heels, and a Thom Browne for Black Fleece bag. For a similar corset look try this belt over at ASOS, I’m dying over it!

Also, really good deal alert!! I was looking on the Real Real for this belt that I am wearing and noticed they are having an extra 20% off deal on most of their site. Get over there because there are some amazing finds to be had! I just bought myself a pair of Roger Vivier boots that are heart stopping.

My favorite things to buy are shoes obviously, but surprisingly belts are a close second. I am constantly searching for them. A good belt can carry your wardrobe through the decades. Below are some insane designer belts on sale from the Real Real, get your hands on them while the deal lasts!

DECO TO DISCO

DECO TO DISCO

Over the last few months I’ve been totally immersed in movies. Jeff and I got a subscription to Filmstruck and have been gorging ourselves on classic film and pre-code movies. I was raised on Turner Classic Movies thanks to my dad, and I think that’s where I started to really fall in love with fashion and it certainly helped shape my appreciation of vintage. I’m a sucker for every kind of period film, but I particularly like to see the wardrobes of movies made in the 70’s and 80’s portraying the 20’s and 30’s (example: Chinatown, Great Gatsby, Bonnie and Clyde or a particular favorite of mine, the Moderns.). It’s really fun to see the interplay of the two eras for me. It’s definitely an influence that has seeped into my wardrobe as of late and has inspired me to style a lot of old favorites in my closet!

I’m wearing a japanese dress from Re-Edited vintage here with a vintage fox fur stole (get a fabulous faux fur stole here for a cheap thrill), vintage beads and cloisonne bangles, a red beret, a Black Fleece x Thom Browne handbag, and embroidered Prada mary-janes from 2006.

…and yes, that is an engagement ring you see on my hand. I’ve been so excited to share this news with you, Jeff and I are so incredibly thrilled! It’s been a really magical month, I am so excited for everything that is ahead. We have to get started on planning a wedding, oh my gosh! I want to say thank you to some of the really sweet readers who’ve reached out to congratulate us, it means so much to me that some of you have been following for so long and that now I get to share this development with you. You guys are the best! Sending you so much love in 2017 xx

Layered Up

These shoes, guys! They are everything I could dream of. They are by Erin Adamson, a name you definitely need to keep your eye on. These shoes were the last pair in my size, I am so happy I was able to get my hands on them. Definitely the best Christmas gift to myself!

It’s almost Christmas! Friday is my birthday and I’m considering a treat to myself…it’s hard think about anything but warm coats at the moment. The temperatures here have dipped below freezing and I’m craving a fabulous new coat to add to my cold weather rotation. I’m really considering this gorgeous navy admiral peacoat. So adorable and an all-time classic! As much as I love my crazy vintage, I always need a fail-proof piece like this to bring into the mix.

I am so excited the holidays are almost here! This is my favorite time of the year. We have been busy decorating and gift shopping for the season. This year we have a lot to prepare for. My birthday, Jeff’s birthday, our anniversary and Christmas and New Years are all occurring within a span of three weeks. I’ve got to get ready for some serious celebrating!

I was so excited when LAGOS approached me to style some of their beautiful Caviar collection a while back for some holiday inspired looks. I love these beautiful pieces! Growing up, I always remember the only jewelry my mom would wear would be astack of beautiful silver bracelets and rings. These pieces totally take me back to that style memory. Nothing could be more chic with a monochromatic ensemble for this season of festivities. Any piece of this collection would also make a stunning gift for a lucky lady in your life!

I wore a LAGOS necklace from the Enso collection , stacks of the gorgeous Caviar bracelets and more pearl embellished bracelets and rings from the Luna collection. I paired them cozy neutrals and silver heels for a daytime look, and dressed them up with a 50’s cocktail skirt and velvet off shoulder top for evening. All of these pieces are going to be perfect for the upcoming weeks! I can’t wait to wear them.

There is a really magical feeling in the air right now! We have Christmas cookies to bake and holiday parties to attend. I’ve been feeling inspired to dress up a little more in light of the party-going spirit this time of year. I’ve had to rearrange my closet with the move and I always like being able to look at my clothes with a fresh set of eyes. Everything I’m wearing here are old vintage favorites that have been hanging in my closet unworn for months. I love how some creative styling can make old things feel fresh. I’m wearing an Adolfo jacket from Garment Modern with 70’s Perry Ellis culottes my mom found at Salvation Army for me years ago, and a very old pair of Dolce and Gabbana gold star booties!
