Weekend Window Shopping

Weekend Window Shopping

Happy Friday guys! It’s blistering hot here today, with a high of 107 degrees. I’m so ready for fall I could crawl out of my skin. I’m spending my downtime indoors perusing online sales. Today Nordstrom’s Anniversary Sale started and I’m seriously eyeing this timeless drop shoulder turtleneck from Nili Lotan. The Shopbop sale is still going until the end of the month and I’m tempted to clean out their R13. Decisions, decisions! Here I’ve posted some outfit inspirations I’ve collected for the upcoming months. Definitely captures my mood right now!

Jane Birkin Does Texas

Jane Birkin Does Texas

Happy humpday! Quick outfit snapshot today. I mentioned in my packing post that I always pack a pair of brown western ankle boots by Frye when I travel. Last year I finally decided to get another pair in black since the brown had served me well for so many years. I love the rock and roll feeling these boots have. I love to pair them with a white tee and cropped flares for a Jane-Birkin-Does-Texas look.

Monday Workwear

Monday Workwear

Yes, I’m still obsessed with these shoes. I love how they can work as a foil to more elegant pieces, like this polka dot pussy bow blouse and paperbag Y’s skirt. I wore this into town to hammer out some planning at a coffee shop. These sneakers have breathed new life into my wardrobe! I am so glad I got two pairs. My mom even ordered a pair this weekend.

Wearing a Y’s paperbag skirt with a vintage Liz Claiborne blouse, grommet belt, Celine aviator sunglasses, and Adidas Yung-1 sneakers.

Charlie Girl Pants

Charlie Girl Pants

Even though we’re a very long ways from fall, I knew I had to have these pants when I saw them. I love that preppy 70’s Charlie Girl look, with fitted tweedy bottoms and smart high collared blouses.  These pants are timeless while still being a bit cheeky. When it gets cooler I cannot wait to wear these pants with a camel turtleneck and cognac ankle boots.

Wearing Sea NYC cuffed check pants with an Opening Ceremony ribbed sweater, Dries Van Noten heels, a vintage belt, and vintage Louis Vuitton mini speedy bag.

The Fashion Sneaker I Bought in Two Colors

The Fashion Sneaker I Bought in Two Colors

I’ve been pondering the ugly dad sneaker the last few months. The idea of the infamous Balenciaga Triple S sneakers intrigued me at first, but the attraction fizzled almost as soon as it started. As so often happens in the fast-moving age of Instagram, these sneakers reached peak saturation too soon and every time I saw them on my Instagram feed they became less appealing to me. Still, I have a soft spot for ugly-cute shoes, particularly those with outsized proportions.  I wanted a fun sneaker.

The Ultimate Packing Guide

The Ultimate Packing Guide

This post has been a long time coming. I travel pretty frequently and learning to pack the right way has made a big difference in the quality of my life when I’m on the road. I’ve been an over-packer and I’ve been an under-packer, and I’ve learned to find a happy in between by focusing on what sparks joy in my wardrobe. A lot of what I speak about here relates to Marie Kondo’s books The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up and Spark Joy. When I read these books, I changed my approach to my wardrobe completely and it has made me a much happier person. It also revolutionized the way I pack and I’ve been able to travel much less stressfully than I used to. Here are my biggest secrets to packing effectively.

New Hobbies and New Outfit Opportunities

New Hobbies and New Outfit Opportunities

It may seem insane in the thick of a suffocating Texas summer, but I started playing tennis with my husband recently. We both spend a lot of time at our desks every day and wanted to start a new healthy habit together. I was skeptical when he first suggested tennis as an afterwork activity to take up. I am a deeply uncoordinated person, and I am also pretty apathetic when it comes to participating in sports (I am not a competitive personality, Jeff is the complete opposite). I thought maybe this could be my opportunity to hone the cat-like reflexes I  never had. During our first game I realized that this would probably take decades to develop or more likely never happen at all, as I struggled to hit the ball even just a few times. Still, I was surprised at how much fun we had and we worked up a great sweat. I’m slowly but surely getting better now and I’m enjoying it all the while.

Denim of the Summer

Denim of the Summer

I am so obsessed with these cut-off Helmut Lang shorts I got on sale last week. They are so much fun to style because they look amazing with any kind of shoe and they pair well with all kinds of fun jackets. I have a lot of cropped 80s bomber jackets and boleros, and I can tell that I’m going to be wearing them with these shorts for a long time to come. What a fun length of denim! I wore them to go digging at my favorite DFW record store Josey Records yesterday. Worn with an Opening Ceremony ribbed crop sweater (also on sale right now) and Casadei silver python patterned slingbacks.
