KANSAI YAMAMOTO AVIATOR SKIRT

Fashion
Feb 20, 2010

"Gaudy by
desire, larger-than-life by theater's intensity, and virtually to
Japanese culture what Pop style was to Anglo-American culture, Yamamoto
has consistently cultivated a fashion of fantastic images, extravagant
imagination, and sensuous approach to both tradition and a view of the
future."

–Leonard Koren, New Fashion Japan (1984)

This skirt is one of the best Kansai Yamamoto piecces I own. is a
visionary Japanese designer sometimes best known for outfitting David
Bowie circa Ziggy Stardust. Check out some info I compiled at my friend's blog La Maladie Tropicale a few months back.

Worn with Zara sweatshirt, vintage ankh necklace, Martin Margiela cap-toe ankle boots

Something very hoof-like and organic about the shoes at Proenza Schouler for Fall 2010.

I love every single pair.

I was looking for pictures of fungi online today…and I found this type of fungus called Horse's Hoof. Pretty cool!

BACK FROM NYC!

Fashion
Feb 17, 2010

Just got back from NYC-I was there for five days for some exciting meetings and to hang out with friends. I didn't go to any fashion shows while I was there…fashion shows are not my cup of tea.

My mom spoke at the Chictopia10 summit-she did a great job. It was an illuminating conference and it so nice to meet other bloggers.

The gorgeous Raych from That's Chic.

My mom, speaking on a panel with Rebecca from The Clothes Horse.

We checked into the Soho Grand-my favorite place to stay in NYC. It was great people watching this weekend with all of the parties they had going on. We had a cool view from our room.

It's conveniently close to some of my favorite stops in NYC-namely the IF boutique, Opening Ceremony, Seven, and What Goes Around Comes Around. We barely had to leave the hotel to get to the IF boutique and What Goes Around. Which was really nice considering all of the snow (not visible in the above picture!)

What Goes Around Comes Around

IF Boutique

Every morning (and sometimes for lunch…and dinner) my mom and I eat at Le Pain Quotidien. I love that they play classical music in the morning when it's quiet. Definitely my favorite New York ritual. It's also right down the street from the Soho Grand!

I got homesick for Mexican food (a couple of times)…luckily Papatzul was right around the corner. They have these boiled egg enchiladas that are so tasty. It's way more authentic than the Tex Mex we have so much of in Dallas.

On Sunday we met up with some old friends and new friends to do some shopping.

Far left is Lucrecia of Fashion Is Poison…I was so happy to see her again! We had so much when she was in town back in Texas in December.

Second to the left is Emily of Cupcakes and Cashmere, Esti Choi of Austin-based online boutique Buy Definition (another familiar face), my mom Judy of Atlantis Home, me, and Gennie of Maison des Reveries

We all cleaned up at the IF basement sale. Can't leave NYC without some Ivan Grundahl.

They have the prettiest coffees in NY…iced cappucino from Le Pain Quotidien.

Latte from….???…I can't remember where we were.

My mom and I made a great haul at What Goes Around Comes Around. You'll be seeing more of our finds soon.

This is a Vivienne Westwood bustle skirt…you can undo the bustle…note the dangling 'garters'. This is my first piece of Vivienne Westwood and I'm very excited.

It was a suit and the jacket that went with it didn't fit me, so my mom is going to wear it. She has much broader shoulders than I do. Don't you think that breaking up vintage couture sets is a hideous crime? They're meant to be together! Preserve fashion history!

Detail shot of the bustle

Okay…it took me about 10 minutes to warm up to these TAO Comme des Garcons brogues. I thought 'Oh, they're exquisite, but I wouldn't wear them.' What a lie that was…they have barely left my feet since I purchased them. I need a kilt to wear them with. I have a one or two pieces being shipped home from NYC that they will look great with.

Can't stop looking at these guys….they have a sort of smushy, flattened shape when they are being worn on the foot. Like the well-worn shoes of a little boy.

My mom got this 80s moc croc Courreges puffer.

I dressed like a slob in NYC. Fashion week…what fashion week?? It's nasty outside and I didn't want to brush my hair.

Two of my closest friends Ronnie and Amit have just moved up to NYC…seeing them is the best.

Ronnie in his signature sweater explaning how to…make a cup of Ronnie.

Neon Indian played on the Jimmy Fallon show last Thursday….oh my god!

Well, it's really good to be home. It's been a busy month and I'm ready to get back to blogging.
 xo Jane.

Best shoes ever?

Fashion
Feb 10, 2010

Maybe. I had to snap some pics of my new Comme des Garcons tri-tone brogues while I was cleaning my room tonight. I have been eagerly anticipating their arrival ever since I ordered them.

You can’t tell so much in this picture but the toe is patent leather.

SUNDAY LEATHER

Fashion
Feb 7, 2010

Yesterday I took my Balenciaga 'Astrogirl' boots for a spin. I say Astrogirl because thats what Chauss always calls these boots….I like that name for them. They're from Pre Fall 2008. I flipped over these boots when I saw them. Don't you love Luxirare's version in white?

Worn with my beloved asymmetrical leather pleated Ivan Grundahl skirt, a fur vest from Zara, vintage sequined belt, and a J. Crew gold chain bracelet.

And don't I look so much like Gollum!

Sorry for the slowdown in updates…I've had a busy week and a broken computer. Technology really wears me out.

THE WEATHER IS TERRIBLE

Fashion
Jan 30, 2010

It's hard to think about doing anything at all when it's rainy, freezing, and grey. I wish the sunshine we had last week would come back.

DUCT TAPE

Fashion
Jan 28, 2010

My mom got this Martin Margiela blazer at Fred Segal in LA last summer…obviously I had to borrow it from her at some point.

Back detail

The cuffs are rolled up and duct-taped in place.

We brought my corgi Townsend along to snap some pictures.

He wasn't camera-ready at all! Usually he isn't shy about having his picture taken.

Worn with no stretch 'matchstick' jeans from Madewell.

When my aunt and I were taking these pictures…we discovered a secret meadow behind our park.

Worn with Givenchy chain harness ankle boots-the leather on these is so nice.

Sorry for such a rushed post-it's been a crazy week. Plus, I'm starving…off to get lunch and then back to work!

Bright Young Things in Vanity Fair

Bright Young Things in Vanity Fair

It was such an honor to be shot by Jonathan Becker for this month's Bright Young Things feature in Vanity Fair. The shoot took place in the Presidential Suite at the Crillon Hotel while I was in Paris in November for the ball. The shoot was so much fun. It was great to wear Chanel again too!

Here are some behind the scenes pictures!

We had some very cold weather for the shoot! We warmed up with lots of coffee inside the suite.

Here is Vanity Fair's feature on the Crillon Ball, also in this months issue, also shot by Jonathan Becker!

Thank you so much to Vanity Fair for the feature!
