WICKED

Fashion
Jul 21, 2010

This vintage bolero was another find from Cheap Thrills in Tulsa, Oklahoma. It was love at first sight for me. It immediately evoked a Joan Collins meets the Wicked Witch of the West kind of vibe that I couldn't resist. For 12 dollars, I couldn't not bring it home. 12 dollars, you guys…

My boyfriend Ronnie drew his interpretation of the glamorous super sorceress who would wear this bolero.

I love the bolero this much more now!

This wicked jacket needs some wicked shoes and I think these pointy, piecey, shiny, strappy, snake-like Chloe heels are the perfect sidekicks.

Sorry for the slowdown in updates-haven't had a stable internet connection for days now. Bye for now-I'm going to paint my jacket!

Gotta make it work somehow

I found this dress yesterday at a Goodwill in Irving that I like to frequent. A problem with thrifting is that 99% of what you find that you like isn't your size anyway. This dress is a case in point. I love the pattern and the colors, but it's quite roomy and shaped a little weird. The actual waist on this dress falls at about crotch level…not a terribly flattering look.

I decided to try to make it work today…I just hiked the dress up, wrapped up the excess fabric in a ponytail holder and stuck a petticoat underneath it. Cha cha! It kept me cool while I ate tacos outside. Love is love, and I couldn't not wear this dress.

Wore a big stack of vintage bakelite bracelets compliment its Carmen Miranda-esque feel.

And my very beloved beautiful Chanel bowtie heels…aww, these shoes are so sweet.

Cheap Thrills etc

I found this vintage shirt at Cheap Thrills in Tulsa, Oklahoma over the weekend.

It is one of MANY incredible things I found at this store, so expect to see more soon. That store alone made our whole trip to Tulsa worthwhile!

I love the playful jagged tiers on the sleeves and waist…the psychedelic colors and pattern are spellbinding.

Aww, Shelley…

Speaking of artful clothes…

The jacket I'm painting is coming along, slowly but surely…

But, oh SO slowly…

I'm having so much fun painting this, so I'm glad it will take me a long time to finish it! Very gratifying and relaxing.

I have to share these pictures from yesterday!

I was having a few friends over for dinner and I asked my mom if she could make a quick pot of curry.

Instead she and my younger sister Carol whipped up an amazing three-bean chili with two kind of biscotti for dessert!

And look at the beautiful table setting they did…aww!

Thank you so much Mom & Carol…your hard work did not go unrelished ;)

Shooting with Shannon

I was lucky to work with Shannon Sewell again when she made another jaunt to Dallas a few weeks ago. I love her style and she has an infectious bubbly spirit! Thank you for such a fun shoot!

Great big iPhone post

I cracked my phone six months ago…I know you can get the screen replaced but I don't even notice the crack anymore. It only adds character. My Paul Frank iPhone case is ripping apart too because I always stuff my cash and ID in there instead of carrying a purse! I abuse my phone so badly..

A collection of iPhone pictures I've taken over the past six months…this will be a long, self-indulgent post…click below if you care to see!

BAD ART COMES FROM THE HEART

Fashion
Jun 28, 2010

Fred Beshid, curator of the Museum of Fred said, "Making art is too important to be left only to art professionals" Art made by non-professionals also happens to be a lot more charming. The naive charm of bad art will never fade for me. I've spent the past couple of days perusing online thrift store art galleries. All of the below images from from the PBS Thrift Store art gallery and Bill Davenport's gallery. Thank you for sharing these, Paul and Bill.

It's a good thing I love crude art so much because that's the only kind of art I'm capable of creating, as evidenced by the following images.

I have a history of inflicting my inexpert artistry on my poor clothes. I did these jeans at the tender age of fourteen. My mom gave me an old pair of her Levi's and I went crazy on them with Sharpies/fabric pens. At the time I was really into Swedish Dala horses. (Yeah, don't ask..)
I wore them all that summer in San Miguel de Allende…and I still wear them sometimes these days.

This jacket that was sent to me by Aritzia. It's a little too blah for my style but it's still basically a cute jacket…the perfect candidate for a paint job!

But before I go in for the kill I've got to warm up. Can't decide between demented baby animals or perverted fairies theme. Here are few little practice runs I did.

This DIY could take a while…don't expect to hear updates too soon. I want to cake it up with so much paint that the jacket crackles and leaves a trail of flakes everywhere I go.

Wish me luck with my bad art!
