The Avalon

Fashion
Jul 20, 2011

One of my favorite things in LA are the pretty pool-side bungalows at the Avalon hotel. Luckily for us, the Avalon is just a few minutes away from it's sister hotel, Maison 140, where we were staying. Mom and I are huge fans of Kelly Wearstler, and she designed both hotels, making it that much more enticing to stay there!

Mmm!! Those sliders were so tasty–wish I could have them all over again.

How appropriate that I was wearing a Roxy Music shirt when I was at the Avalon! Avalon is my favorite Roxy Music album…maybe favorite album ever. Wearing my trusty Woods necklace–wear this with everything.

Worn with Club Monaco bomber jacket, Stella McCartney jeans, and Barbara Bui ankle boots.

Kim played undercover service dog….shhh!

We are so excited to offer a very small collection of Atlantis Dry Goods. The lace-trimmed petticoat and off-the-shoulder poet blouse are available on our site.

I'm having so much fun in LA–I have some crazy stories to tell from a project I was working on yesterday. Now my dad and my sister are going to join us for a weekend vacation! Can't wait to see them.

2. Barbara Bui Studded Grey Ankle Boots

3. Barbara Bui Studded Strappy Wedge

4. Barbara Bui Black Harness Boots

5. Barbara Bui Chocolate Studded Harness Boots

I'm leaving for an exciting project in LA tomorrow–these are definitely coming with me!

AFTERNOON AT THE BELMONT

Fashion
Jul 10, 2011

Yesterday my best friend and my mom and I headed to Oak Cliff to check out the grand opening of the Vintage Mobile–a big green friendly school bus full of vintage clothes. Cute!! We got some great things–the t-shirt selection was amazing.

The Vintage Mobile will be stationed in the parking lot of the Belmont's Smoke restaurant every weekend if you want to check it out yourself!

The sandwiches at Smoke are amazing, and so are the fries..and potato salad..and pickled cabbage…I'm having food flashbacks.

View from the Belmont's patio bar–pretty Dallas skyline  :)

I think a staycation is in order very soon!

Pretty Viky :)

TEN MOVIES WITH INSPIRING STYLE

FashionMovies
Jul 7, 2011

When it's too hot to sit on a patio somewhere, sometimes its nice to curl up with a movie. That's what I've been doing a lot of lately. Here are some of my favorite movies with fabulous wardrobes and styling!

1. Eyes of Laura Mars (1978)

This has to be my favorite movie for fashion inspiration. Faye Dunaway's outfits are very Halston meets Ralph Lauren and the photo-shoot scenes are so over-the-top. Laura Mars (Faye Dunaway) is a Newton-esque fashion photographer whose photos always depict gruesome, violent scenes. She realizes her photographs are predicting the work of a serial killer. The plot itself is pretty cheesy. Pretty much any movie with Faye Dunaway has been in has a great wardrobe, see Bonnie & Clyde, Chinatown, Beverly Hills Madam (it is as bad as it sounds).

2. Foxes (1980)

Coming-of-age teen drama about four jaded teens (including Jodie Foster and Cherie Currie of the Runaways) from broken homes trying to take care of each other in a seedy patch of LA. Pretty good acting! Cherie Currie's wardrobe was great, lots of leather pants and tiny halter tops. Plus a Giorgio Moroder soundtrack. I really love this movie, could never get sick of it!

8. We Children of Bahnhof Zoo (1981)

The real life story of teen disco-loving burnout Christiane F about the Berlin drug scene. David Bowie plays himself. Lots of cool outfits. Very sad.

4. Une Femme Est Une Femme (1961)

Great Jean-Luc Godard film about a love triangle  between showgirl (adorable Anna Karina), her lover (Jean-Claude Brialy), and his best friend (Jean-Paul Belmondo). Funny, cute, and smart…Anna Karina's outfits and hairstyles in this are precious.

5. The Thin Man (1934)

Who doesn't love Nick & Nora? Cutest crime-solving couple ever. Nora's sumptuous furs and bias-cut gowns in the Thin Man series are to die for. Anything with Myrna Loy is very stylish though.

6. The Stepford Wives (1975)

Great but cheesy feminist film. Headstrong photographer Joanna (Katherine Ross) and her husband move to Stepford, an eerily cookie-cutter suburb populated by shallow men and their vacant and slavishly obedient housewives. It's an Invasion of the Body Snatchers situation. Katherine Ross wears lots of cute hot-pants and haltertops. The zombie wives's frilly hausefrau dresses are pretty terrifying themselves. If you've seen the 2004 remake, forget you ever did before you watch this.

7. Annie Hall (1977)

Diane Keaton's wardrobe is adorable in this, lots of good ideas to copy. I love the high-waisted jeans, flannel, and campus boots she's wearing below.

8. Barbarella (1968)

Campy as they come, but the wardrobe is so serious. Seriously good that is. Wow, I can't get over some of the technology that went into them.

9. American Gigolo (1980)

Richard Gere's Armani suits are really beautiful and Lauren Hutton is stunning. Great movie. Great Moroder soundtrack.

10. Repulsion (1965)

Catherine Deneuve is a schizophrenic beauty driven to madness by her hallucinations. Scary and so good!

Hope you enjoyed! Thanks to everyone who contributed their favorites on Twitter yesterday!

I'm also excited to invite you to the launch of Club Monaco's new store in Dallas, hosted by me and my mom. Hope you can make it!!

Happy 4th of July!

Fashion
Jul 4, 2011

Happy fourth of July!! Hope everyone has been having fun celebrating with hotdogs and fireworks.

There's never a better time to wear this bicentennial leather jacket.

Worn with AG jeans, a J Crew button down and Giuseppe Zanotti buckle shoes…and a few stickers for a little extra patriotism.

Have a great fourth of July!

PINK PANTHER

Fashion
Jul 1, 2011

I love this late sixties/early seventies summer party dress found at a local antique mall!! Makes me want to time travel backwards to a sixties poolside cocktail party. It reminds me of  watching I Dream of Jeannie when I was little. Worn with clip-on Yves Saint Laurent earrings and J. Crew sandals.

BEAUTY REPORT

BeautyMakeup
Jun 26, 2011

I’m a little bit of a makeup junkie, and I’ve switched up a lot of the products I normally use for summer. Here are some of my favorite products!

1. Bobbi Brown’s Extra Repair foundation gives beautiful flawless coverage that’s buildable, and it’s really moisturizing. I have slightly oily skin but it doesn’t make me too shiny. This is my favorite foundation I’ve ever used!

2. Guerlain Meteorites. I’ve been using them for years, my mom turned me on to them. The slightly shimmery pastel color corrective powders make you look radiant.

3. Guerlain Meteorites Light Diffusing Perfecting Primer. This product was sent to me by the sweet people at Guerlain, and its completely unlike the other slippery silicone primers that are out there. This makes your makeup last forever!

4. Stila Convertible Color in Lillium. Perfect thing to throw in your purse when you go out, you can dab a little of this cream color on your lips and cheeks. I know so many girls who love this.

5. Guerlain Face Powder Compact. This was another product sent to me by Guerlain and I carry this in my purse whenever I go out because it blots out shine and gives a little sheer coverage. Also, it’s super pale! I have such a hard time finding pale products.

6. Beauty is Life eyeshadows. I am in love with this beauty line, and their amazing color range. I never thought I’d be wearing baby blue and yellow eyeshadow, but these colors are too pretty to pass by and I’ve gotten a lot of compliments on them. The blue is called Sailor, and its a pale Anna Karina-esque color. The yellow is called Gold.

7. Guerlain’s Six Color Beauty Quad. not only does this come in gorgeous old Hollywood style packaging but the pallette range is exquisite. Guerlain also sent me this product.

8. T Le Clerc Eye Brow Pencil in Blond. I’m pretty nuts about my eyebrows and this pencil is perfect for shaping.

9. Cle de Peau Eyeshadow Quad in Thulite. I love doing a pale shimmery pink on the lid and smoking out the creases with grey. It’s a little bit of a sixties pallette! It’s my new everyday look.

10. L’oreal Lineur Intense liquid eyeliner. If you find liquid eyeliner challenging like I do, you’ll love this. It’s so easy to control.

11. Anna Sui’s Vivid Lipsticks. I know it sounds cheesy but the colors are all very ‘fashion forward’. There’s Barbie pink, peachy nudes, black, and everything in between!! I love these, they were sent to me by Urban Outfitters a long time ago. The Rouge lipstick range looks very nice too.

12. Cle de Peau Silky Lipsticks. Half gloss half lipstick in really gorgeous colors. These last forever. My sister turned me on to these.

My new favorite red lipstick is Beauty is Life’s lipstick in Royal 24. It’s got a touch of orange in it that makes it a little 70’s and not at all clownish.

Before I sign off, I do have one more reccomendation, especially for those living in hot climates. Urban Decay’s All Nighter Long-lasting Makeup Setting Spray. It keeps your face in place, no joke.

Hope this answers any questions, you can tweet me if you want to know anything else!

xx

P.S. If you haven’t watched any of Pixiwoo’s makeup tutorials and feel a little lost when it comes to makeup application, I highly reccomend them!! I’ve gotten so much better at my makeup just by watching them.
