TEN MOVIES WITH INSPIRING STYLE

FashionMovies
Jul 7, 2011

When it's too hot to sit on a patio somewhere, sometimes its nice to curl up with a movie. That's what I've been doing a lot of lately. Here are some of my favorite movies with fabulous wardrobes and styling!

1. Eyes of Laura Mars (1978)

This has to be my favorite movie for fashion inspiration. Faye Dunaway's outfits are very Halston meets Ralph Lauren and the photo-shoot scenes are so over-the-top. Laura Mars (Faye Dunaway) is a Newton-esque fashion photographer whose photos always depict gruesome, violent scenes. She realizes her photographs are predicting the work of a serial killer. The plot itself is pretty cheesy. Pretty much any movie with Faye Dunaway has been in has a great wardrobe, see Bonnie & Clyde, Chinatown, Beverly Hills Madam (it is as bad as it sounds).

2. Foxes (1980)

Coming-of-age teen drama about four jaded teens (including Jodie Foster and Cherie Currie of the Runaways) from broken homes trying to take care of each other in a seedy patch of LA. Pretty good acting! Cherie Currie's wardrobe was great, lots of leather pants and tiny halter tops. Plus a Giorgio Moroder soundtrack. I really love this movie, could never get sick of it!

8. We Children of Bahnhof Zoo (1981)

The real life story of teen disco-loving burnout Christiane F about the Berlin drug scene. David Bowie plays himself. Lots of cool outfits. Very sad.

4. Une Femme Est Une Femme (1961)

Great Jean-Luc Godard film about a love triangle  between showgirl (adorable Anna Karina), her lover (Jean-Claude Brialy), and his best friend (Jean-Paul Belmondo). Funny, cute, and smart…Anna Karina's outfits and hairstyles in this are precious.

5. The Thin Man (1934)

Who doesn't love Nick & Nora? Cutest crime-solving couple ever. Nora's sumptuous furs and bias-cut gowns in the Thin Man series are to die for. Anything with Myrna Loy is very stylish though.

6. The Stepford Wives (1975)

Great but cheesy feminist film. Headstrong photographer Joanna (Katherine Ross) and her husband move to Stepford, an eerily cookie-cutter suburb populated by shallow men and their vacant and slavishly obedient housewives. It's an Invasion of the Body Snatchers situation. Katherine Ross wears lots of cute hot-pants and haltertops. The zombie wives's frilly hausefrau dresses are pretty terrifying themselves. If you've seen the 2004 remake, forget you ever did before you watch this.

7. Annie Hall (1977)

Diane Keaton's wardrobe is adorable in this, lots of good ideas to copy. I love the high-waisted jeans, flannel, and campus boots she's wearing below.

8. Barbarella (1968)

Campy as they come, but the wardrobe is so serious. Seriously good that is. Wow, I can't get over some of the technology that went into them.

9. American Gigolo (1980)

Richard Gere's Armani suits are really beautiful and Lauren Hutton is stunning. Great movie. Great Moroder soundtrack.

10. Repulsion (1965)

Catherine Deneuve is a schizophrenic beauty driven to madness by her hallucinations. Scary and so good!

Hope you enjoyed! Thanks to everyone who contributed their favorites on Twitter yesterday!

I'm also excited to invite you to the launch of Club Monaco's new store in Dallas, hosted by me and my mom. Hope you can make it!!
