In the Mood For Fall

In the Mood For Fall

Click on the links to shop the looks!

Is it just me or is anyone else so ready for summer to be over? I am tired of it being too hot to wear anything but a sundress. When the temperatures dip below 70 I will be living my best life. I am dreaming of wearing all things charcoal, chocolate and navy right now. I have stocked up on sloppy sweatshirts and mannish trousers. I still would like to find some great sneakers! I am thinking of these New Balances.

Enjoy the long weekend everyone!

A Style Sketchbook

A Style Sketchbook

I have been trying to keep up a sketchbook/journaling practice lately. I have been a daily journaler for years now, but since I have been doing so much artwork I wanted to do a more visual diary. I have also been trying to buy less, and spend more time appreciating what I already have. I am not immune to the draw of beautiful new clothes and shoes (as this diary shows!). But I do consider this journal a little thank-you note to all of the clothes I wear on my back (and the shoes my feet) and the ways they serve me in my life. This fashion sketchbook practice was a nice way to slow down and be appreciative of the present, through the good times (going to the museum, eating so much delicious ramen and watching wonderful movies) and bad (passing out on Saturday, sick day Tuesday…damned chronic illnesses). Maybe I should keep this up!

T-Shirt Benefit Sale for El Paso

T-Shirt Benefit Sale for El Paso

I just wanted to say a quick thank you to those who shopped the benefit sale I held for El Paso on @janealdridgeart last weekend. When I heard about the shooting in El Paso, I was so deeply disturbed because it hits close to home. The shooter was a Dallas resident with a white supremacist agenda, who went down to El Paso with the intention to target Mexicans. I am sick to live in a world where Mexicans feel unsafe in a place they call home, where they contribute so much. I am physically ill worried about the safety of my Mexican friends. This was a really hard week and working on these hand-painted t-shirts helped keep me focused. We raised $1040 from the sale, 100% of the proceeds went to for three victims of the El Paso shooting, who were raising money for their baseball team at the Walmart when it happened. I am so grateful to those who helped by shopping the sale! Thank you so much. We will have one for RAICES in the near future.

A very special commemorative bag for Stella

A very special commemorative bag for Stella

I wanted to share with you a very special gift I received from the bag company Catto Catto. We lost our beloved 13 year old German shorthair pointer Stella three months ago, and if you have followed me for a long time you know how important our dogs are to our family. We miss her so much and were absolutely devastated by the loss. Stella was such a special dog and such an innocent little soul. When she passed away the void in our life felt enormous. I’m sure most of you know that the heartbreak of losing a pet. It hurts so much.

I can’t tell you how much it meant to me when Catto Catto reached out to me and offered to make me a special hand-painted bag in Stella’s memory. It was the kindest and most thoughtful gesture and it came during a time we were deep in our grief. Jeff and I were so touched that they were thinking of Stella, and reached out to us about her when we were missing her the most. We chose some photos of Stella to send to them. You can see the beautiful result here. Jeff and I were so stunned when the custom painted bag arrived. The likeness is uncanny!

I keep the bag on a small table in our living room so we can always look at it. When I carry it out, I am reminded of her all day and it makes me so happy to have this memento to keep her memory alive. It feels like a little part of her is still here with us. To Efsun from Catto Catto, we want to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for Stella’s beautiful bag. We will cherish it for the rest of our lives. Catto Catto has an Instagram for their amazing handbag line, made of the most stunning leather and formed in very interesting modern shapes. They also have a separate Instagram account for their handpainted custom bags here called Art of Catto. Check it out! I especially love the pet portraits

The Year of the Clog

The Year of the Clog

Why do clogs feel so right, right now? Maybe because sensible shoes feel grounding in insane times like these. Maybe they are the natural progression of the ugly fashion shoe. Clogs are inherently funny, wearing them shows you don’t take yourself too seriously. Whatever the reason, clogs are gaining momentum and finally getting the respect they have long deserved. Cult clog brand No. 6 has expanded into a full-fledged store, a one-stop shop for your clog lifestyle. Fashion archive market Heroine posted an ode to the Olsen’s love of clogs, especially shearling-lined Birkenstock clogs. I feel a satisfaction I cannot explain in seeing celebrities wearing clogs. For years I have obsessed on a picture of Sarah Jessica Parker wearing her Swedish Hasbeen clogs with socks, a chunky cardigan, cuffed jeans to go pick up her kids from school. She just looks so cool, the clogs give off real IDGAF energy. I have recently become aware of the online cult that is @TheClogLife founded by author Lauren Mechling, a place where people are encouraged to explore these deeper feelings about clogs. It’s a clog life, and someone has to live it. I don’t see why it shouldn’t be us!

In San Miguel De Allende with Haney

In San Miguel De Allende with Haney

I was lucky to spend a weekend in San Miguel de Allende two weeks ago, with Farfetch and LA based clothing label Haney. Mary Alice Haney is a red carpet stylist turned designer and spending the weekend wearing her Studio 54 inspired party dresses was an absolue blast. Just check out the selection on Farfetch right now! I have been going to San Miguel de Allende for 15 years now and this trip brought back so many fond memories, and experiencing the city with some friends who had never been there before made it feel extra special.

Notes I’m Taking From Menswear 2020

Notes I’m Taking From Menswear 2020

I have been looking at menswear a lot more lately, and I really enjoyed spending time looking at the recent menswear collections and taking notes for myself. Here are some of the shows I most enjoyed. I really loved Lemaire’s menswear collection best of all (not just because I am a massive Can fan). I will be trying to interpret the look on my own for the coming months!

Rock Tee & Wide Leg Jeans

Rock Tee & Wide Leg Jeans

Isn’t it great when you find something not too expensive that reinvigorates your wardrobe? I got these Mango pants on ASOS. They were $66 with the sale they had. I’ve been wanting wide leg pants for a long time but I couldn’t settle on the right pair. I like that these are black because they can go a bit more rock and roll. I wore them one of my all time favorite t-shirts. This is a Billy Ray Cyrus t-shirt I found over a decade ago, and I wear it all the time in real life but never on my blog for some reason. It feels relevant with Old Town Road mania right now!

These pants are sold out, I am sorry to say! But I looked online for another cheap alternative. Check out these H&M wide leg jeans, they look really similar!
