Simple and Sleek

Simple and Sleek

Some items on my current want list. I’m trying to clean my closet right now and while I’m all stocked up on 80s poof dresses, I realize I’m lacking in some wardrobe basics, like a sleek pair of black trousers. Gravitating towards the unusual and bizarre is just kind of my style and part of who I am, but there will always be part of me that wishes I could be more minimalist at times. These are some the more parred down looks I dream about. I really do love a good Outnet find like this smoking jacket!

Vintage Bolero Love

Vintage Bolero Love

I love this kind of outfit, just a bunch of things I’ve had forever thrown on with some new-to-me vintage. My mom was in town one day and dropped off this amazing vintage bolero she picked up for me on eBay…such a sweet gift, thank you mom! I’m in love with it, I can tell I’m going to be wearing this all the time. It’s so incredible! I feel like a matador in it.

I’m literally wearing nothing new here except the Simon Miller bag which you can purchase here! The pants are RRL that I bought from the boutique in New York about six years ago. The vest is from my mom’s old clothing line Atlantis Underground. The scarf is very old Club Monaco. The shoes are Alaia!

Easy Weekday Uniform

Easy Weekday Uniform

I realize I’m posting the same Isabel Marant pants twice in a row, but I love them so much! We had some meetings this week and they were so easy to throw on with a pair of pumps and slubby sweatshirt. I’m definitely living in these right now.

Like a Boy

Like a Boy

I’ve been gravitating towards more menswear lately, especially the kind of suiting you see in Peter Lindbergh’s photography. I bought these Etoile Isabel Marant pants because they fit my mood so perfectly. The fit is very tailored and classic, I can see wearing these forever and in so many different ways. I’m happy with my purchase! They also inspired me to get out these old blue and brown Prada brogues I have had for a few years. The touch of blue is the dose of not-basic that this outfit needed!

Wearing Etoile Isabel Marant pants with a vintage Courreges turtleneck, a vintage Zoran draped coat, and a Ferragamo Fiamma bag.

Polka Dotted Slip Skirt

Polka Dotted Slip Skirt

This Ganni skirt instantly appealed to me when I saw it. With the hot summer weather we are having, it is so nice to have a cute and easy piece like this that you can throw a cami (mine is ASOS) over and walk out the door. The polka dot and ruffle details make this so sweet, and the fabric has substantial heft so it hangs beautifully when worn. Living in Texas is a weird thing during the summer because when its 100 degrees outside, people blast their ACs to keep the temps sub 60 inside. Hence the blazer over the shoulders. It’s been a wild ride this month for me dealing with some health problems, as you might know but probably don’t because I don’t talk about it much. I have previously thought what I was dealing with endometriosis but it seems some of the associated symptoms have bubbled up and taken on a life of their own. It’s really crazy to think your body can attack itself so viciously. I’ve been trying to rest and don’t have much occasion or energy to dress up right now, but this skirt really cheered me up. I hate to cop to the true benefits of retail therapy at risk of sounding shallow, but I think we all know it is a little bit true. Mindless distraction (ie: window shopping, summer reads and Netflix) have been my savior when I’m feeling a bit hopeless or in a lot of pain. I might try to get out tonight and get dinner at my favorite restaurant with my fiancee this evening, I know I’ll feel a lot more like my old self when I put on this skirt and maybe a rock tee and pair of favorite clogs. It really is focusing on the small things that help you keep it together when you’re feeling overwhelmed…like cute clogs and a delicious plate of pasta.

Wearing a Ganni skirt with an ASOS ribbed cami, vintage admiral’s hat, a straw handbag given to me by a friend, a The Row blazer, and Giuseppe Zanotti ankle boots that I’ve had for a bazillion years.

Through the Woods

Through the Woods

We had so much fun experimenting with the early morning light through the filter of the dense woods for this series. There is such a magical feeling being up before the rest of the world, surrounded by nature. I wore some very well-loved wardrobe favorites for this shoot. I am wearing a Comme des Garcons pleated navy skirt, Marsell buckled boots, and a no-brand oversized grey turtleneck. We have some more shots from this day that I will be sharing very soon!

On Shopping Consignment…

On Shopping Consignment…

Lately I am really obsessed with shopping consignment for clothes and shoes. It’s a really good time to snap up some of those late 00’s pieces you wanted but couldn’t splurge on when they were in season. I often like to shop out of season for the reason that if I have been thinking about buying something for literally years, I am much more likely to wear it and love it forever. These Isabel Marant boots are a good example. Isabel Marant used these boots in both her spring 2009 and fall 2009 collections and I really loved them then. I am someone who won’t buy something if I see everyone else wearing it though, and I saw those boots all over the internet that year and it killed my desire to buy a pair of my own. As years have gone by, I look back on those 2009 collections very fondly. Isn’t it crazy that it will be 10 years ago since that collection soon? After all of this time I still love those boots. I think Net-a-Porter got a reissue of them maybe two years ago and at that time I considered again if I wanted them but I suppose the right amount of time had not passed. I finally got to thinking about them again and broke down a few weeks ago and tracked down a size 39 on the RealReal. I am so glad that I did! These boots are very glam rock, I have fun when I wear them. I see these with lots of leather pants when the weather cools down but for now I am happy to wear them with mini skirts.

Wearing a silk button down, Zara kilt mini skirt, Isabel Marant 2009 chain boots, Lotuff Tripp bag, and Keiselstein Cord necklace.

The Search for Perfect Denim

The Search for Perfect Denim

I’ve been on the hunt for a while for the perfect black wash jeans. I’m incredibly picky with my denim so this has been a search that has gone on for months. It’s the basics in your closet that are most important, so it is something worth putting research into! My perfect pair could not be solid black (this tends to be so unflattering in my opinion) and they had to have a great fit. I decided to try a denim fit that I knew I loved, the AG denim Stilt jean. Lucky for me they had exactly the kind of wash I was looking for and they were cropped the way I like. I’ve owned two pairs of AG Stilts in the past, I do believe I have them in storage right now. The fit is really comfortable and flattering, especially if you’re long waisted and short legged like me!

Jeans like these are so easy to throw on with a rock tee, vintage blazer, and good shoes. I recently bought these Robert Clergerie x Self Portrait heels and I love them. They remind me of some shoes I loved from the Balmain spring 2009 collection. Definitely a favorite fashion memory.
