LEATHER & DUCT TAPE DIY

LEATHER & DUCT TAPE DIY

Recently Scotch Duct Tape asked me to collaborate on REALLY cool
project–combining my love of vintage clothing and thrift store shopping
with their product–Duct tape!  What an incredible idea!  Duct tape is
no longer just silver, Scotch makes duct tape in every color
imaginable, prints as well.  You can get it at Target! Check out their selection and other DIY projects.

I chose to combine colored duct tape with  a vintage leather biker jacket
for the project.  The jacket was a  very lucky find at a local thrift
store for $19.99.
I
decided to do a rainbow of colors on the sleeve.  I wanted something
simple, and not too complicated.  I was inspired by a rainbow jacket
done by Thierry Muegler in the 80's.
First I
chose my colors, then cut individual pieces to wrap around the
sleeves–don't worry about length too much, you can let it overlap.
Next, apply tape to sleeves of jacket by applying to top of sleeve,
then flip jacket over and apply tape to the other side being very
careful to smooth the tape as you go.  It sounds easy, but the you
really have to let the tape be it's own guide, otherwise it may get too
wrinkly.  Let the tape lay the way it wants to naturally and make it's
own design.

Hope you enjoyed! Tweet me a pic if you try it out :) BTW–didn't chop my hair off. It's what the wig I used a while back was for!

A BURNT-OUT CASE

A BURNT-OUT CASE

We were crazy to endeavour this photoshoot yesterday. Maybe you’ve seen the news headlines about the West Nile outbreak here in Dallas. While shooting by this swampy creek, we were eaten alive by mosquitoes and chased by bees, which is even less fun than it sounds in 100 degree heat and 100 percent humidity. These photos are inspired by the tropical state of decay our city is in. Here’s to hoping neither my mom nor I contracted West Nile!

WHITE JEANS WHITE TANK

WHITE JEANS WHITE TANK

I have been very busy this week, feel like I haven't had much time for fashion! I can always depend on white jeans to make me look a little more put together, even when I'm totally worn out.  Speaking of worn out–my Jack Purcell sneakers aren't so white anymore. I totally want these Stella for Adidas sneakers.

Wearing my clear lollipop quartz pendant given to me by Ippolita, Madewell skinny skinny jeans in white, linen blend tank (similar here), and Jack Purcell sneakers.

FALL PREP

FALL PREP

Newsboy hat, corduroy blazer, and striped bowtie from Rugby. Brogues from Prada.
I went to go check out Rugby's new fall collection yesterday and it was heart breakingly perfect as always. I left lots behind and I'll try to stay away, but I couldn't help but pick up a few things to compliment my new favorite shoes in the universe. Now all I need is for the temperature to drop say…35 degrees?

FLOWER CHILD

FLOWER CHILD

Rosy round sunnies and tent-like sundresses definitely call for these chunky Celine wedges. Also, a shady patch of grass and a center part :)

This dress was a gift from We Are Handsome, the sunnies are Balenciaga from the 70's, and I'm wearing my favorite lollipop quartz pendant necklace gifted to me from Ippolita!

MY LIVING ROOM IN RUE MAGAZINE

MY LIVING ROOM IN RUE MAGAZINE

Photos by Manny Rodriguez

I am so honored to have my place featured in Rue Magazine's Texas issue! I love how Manny's photos turned out. We had so much fun working on my place for Rue last time and I'm so glad I had the opportunity to do it again!

P.S. I have to add this photo that Manny took of Kim. She always sits on her behind and begs like that, and she turned her head toward the camera just at the perfect moment!
