MISSING YOU, WINTER

Fashion
Aug 12, 2010

I think the vintage fur coat that I wore in my last post is really special. It has enormous white pockets and a white hood! I love the Texas heat but I also love beautiful coats that happen to be very warm…

I've been wanting to post this crazy 70's rainbow faux-fur jacket for a while.

I told my mom one day "I have to show you this amazing rainbow faux-fur I found today!" and she said, "How funny, I did too". Of course it was the same jacket. We pick the same things unknowingly all the time!

Love the dramatic collar and big plastic zipper pockets.

I'm wearing it with a vintage Courreges sweater and 70's Yves Saint Laurent skirt from Archive Vintage. Kerry has the best stuff in right now!

I am so glad to hear that so many people like the beetles! So many orders already! If you'd like more info please contact judy@judyaldridge.com.

Can you tell I'm in love with my scanner lately? Ever since my sister showed me a super easy way to use her scanner, I want to scan everything. I would have handwritten this post if I had the time. All I have to do is put a memory card from my camera into my scanner, press ONE button, and bam! It's on the memory card just like a photo would be. It's so simple. I can't believe the way technology has progressed…it used to be a pain in the neck to scan anything. I scanned some drawings I did last night!

Drawing is such a relaxing way to unwind after a stressful day…makes me feel like a kid!

I'd like to give a big thanks to Above the Fray Magazine for such a great interview with me & my mom. Check it out here!

BEETLE MANIA

Fashion
Aug 10, 2010

Hi guys, I’m super excited to show you some of the pieces that Karen has made for our upcoming line of jewelry. We haven’t decided on a name yet. If you’re interested in ordering, for now you can inquire here.

Here are some of the new beetles.

You can still order the belts too!

We’re having so much fun with the new jewelry. Karen has some interesting stories to tell about the production process. I particularly enjoy hearing about her ‘insect relaxing chamber’.

This blog is full of insects lately! Well, to be honest it always is. My life is full of creatures….tonight I was watching a fox crossing the road in the distance and I had to remind myself to watch my step for snakes. Just the other night a copperhead snake was waiting for us at our front door. We have two families of foxes living within a two block radius. The baby foxes are so adorable. Yesterday I almost stepped on a purple newt in our living room, and today a gecko was blocking an electrical socket. Ronnie and I found this beautiful blue caterpillar on my porch just a few days ago…wow! I can’t believe nature can produce these kinds of colors!

I didn’t post much this week-real life got in the way! Not that I didn’t try. Sometimes I take pictures for my blog but the pictures don’t turn out and I decide to wait until I can get good light. Oh well, better luck next time! I can tell you it’s even harder to shoot when it’s 104 degrees outside. Phew.

THE SUIT WITH BIG BUTTONS

Fashion
Aug 3, 2010

Yesterday I was helping my mom style some things for her online vintage store, and in the process ended up trying on this vintage Emanuel Ungaro pantsuit. It's a cashmere blend.

I am definitely not a pants person-but come winter 2010 I might be changing my tune. The whole suit all together is a little much for day-to-day wear but I have a feeling it will break up really nicely. The pants remind me of Prada this season. They're very stretchy and slightly flared. I didn't shoot it, but there is also a matching skirt to go with this set!

Worn with a Lucky Brand hat, thrifted shirt, and Prada sandals.

Cockroaches, Cupcakes & Cartoons

Fashion
Jul 31, 2010

What a crazy week its been! I'm happy to have a quiet Saturday to myself.

Yesterday while running some errands I ran into Dolly Python, AKA Dallas's treasure chest. You can find all kind of freaky folk art, knick-knacks, jewelry, books, records, and clothes here…did you see the Elle Italia editorial with Erin Wasson? The shots inside Dolly Python are beyond!

I brought home this cockroach necklace–I'm obsessed with the insect jewelry of the Victorian era. This guys a cutie…the detail on the side of the pendant is incredible! Thank you for the necklace, Benjamin & Ari!

You can find more of Tetanus Jewelry by Benjamin Hubert at Dolly Python (Dallas) and Shampoo Salon
(Fort Worth). For now you can find Tetanus Jewelry HERE.

Worn with a Lucky Brand cardigan

Today my little sister threw a surprise party for one of her friends. The table arrangement she set up was very impressive! She made these cupcakes too–sooo pretty.

She and my mom picked out these pretty glasses at TJ Maxx last week-so nice!

They remind me of Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends. Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends is my current all-consuming obsession…I really don't care to admit how many episodes I've seen this week but I'm sure it's a LOT.

The character design, backdrops, and color schemes are so inspiring! Definitely my favorite Craig Mccracken cartoon, though I still love Powerpuff Girls, Dexter's Laboratory, and Samurai Jack.

I guess the baroque-psychedelia of Foster's Home has my eye trained on the more whimsical touches of the mansions from the Gilded era. I got this book at Dolly Python yesterday and  love to see l that so many of these suffocatingly extravagant rooms have touches of candy colors like mint green, bubblegum pink, and robin's egg blue.

This amazing image by Flickr user Oldoinyo really captures the mood I'm feeling lately…it's of the Biltmore Estate in North Carolina.

Have a great weekend!

CHANEL FALL 2010

Fashion
Jul 27, 2010

Was so glad to see the faux-fur from Chanel fall 2010 being used in an editorial…I took the photos from Dazed & Confused August issue. Though if I remember correctly the shirt the model is wearing in the above photo is not in fact Chanel…anyways…

Just beyond…!

JUNKED UP

Fashion
Jul 26, 2010

My mom styled all of her brooches (some from her personal collection and most from her store Atlantis Vintage) after this look from the J. Crew fall lookbook. She asked me to wear it and I happily obliged…love this look!

Worn with Madewell shirt and jeans, thriftstore jacket, and Banana Republic pearls.

Exciting news to share-my mom and I were recently shot by the talented Douglas Friedman for the Nowness. We were thrilled (and I must admit, very nervous) to be working with such an amazing photographer.

Douglas was such a pleasure to work with-unbelievably sweet and down to earth. I love his work–see below for some of my favorites from his website. Incredible!

The photos will be up in a week or so…expect to see them soon!

SNAKESKIN JACKET

Fashion
Jul 23, 2010

This python jacket was yet another find from the treasure trove that is Cheap Thrills vintage in Tulsa, Oklahoma. My mom and I laid eyes on the jacket and knew it had to come home with us. The jacket was being kept in the backroom, and we happened to
glimpse it as exited through the back of the store to avoid the
rain. We saw this jacket and froze…the owner wasn't in the store so
we had to come back in the morning for it, and thank god Cheap Thrills was
open on Fourth of July.

When it's laying flat you can see that the sleeves are ever so slightly puffed…so seventies. The python skin is in perfect condition. Glorious.

Worn with a Madewell denim shirt, a Ralph Lauren little girl's skirt my grandma got for me, a Lucky Brand hat, and those totally crazy no-name vintage boots I got in Austin last year at Big Bertha's.

To share a quote from my favorite movie Wild at Heart….

Sailor: Did I ever tell ya that this here jacket represents a symbol of my individuality, and my belief in personal freedom?

Lula: About fifty thousand times.

Have a good weekend!
