DRESS UP WITH IMAGINARY FRIENDS

Fashion
Sep 13, 2011

I'm home from New York and already missing walking past the pretty windows of If Boutique in Soho every day. I figure if I can't shop for myself, I might as well shop for someone else. Here are some of my favorite things on Net-a-Porter as worn by some stylish friends I drew.

On Carline, left: Ruffled tweed mini skirt by Moschino Cheap & Chic, Pleated-collar cotton shirt by Carven, Yokoe leather knee boots by Diane Von Furstenburg, Small crystal-embellished leather bag by Sonia Rykiel.

On Mikki, right: Mid-rise cropped patchwork jeans by Junya Watanabe, Plaid and leather lace-up boots by Dolce & Gabanna,Wicca tweed shoulder bag by Alexander McQueen, Sherman quilted coat by Isabel Marant

On Pilar:

Goat hair and rabbit jacket by Elizabeth and James, Lace-appliquéd tulle blouse by Alice Temperley, Python Wrap Skirt by Reed Krakoff, Buttoned leather ankle boots

On Juanita: Gary tartan wool-blend cropped pants by Isabel Marant, Cashmere blanket scarf by Ralph Lauren, Silk-charmeuse camisole by Alexander Wang, Star-cutout leather pumps by Dolce & Gabbana

On Penelope: Military silk-georgette blouse by Alexander McQueen,Pleated A-line faux leather skirt by Junya Watanabe, Harlington triple-pack of knitted socks, Blend leopard print pumps by Jimmy Choo

That was fun! I think I cured my shopping bug :)

Walking Kim In NYC

Sep 10, 2011

New York has been so much fun, the event at Miu Miu was wonderful. It was so nice to meet so many readers! Thank you so much to those who came out.

It's been pretty non-stop since I got to New York so I haven't had time to sort through the photos I took that night. We snapped these of Kim sniffing around New York before her FNO debut ;)

Wearing a vintage skirt, a J Crew sweater, a Rugby hat, Hue tights, sunglasses courtesy of Elizabeth and James,  and my beloved Laurence Dacade boots!

Fashion’s Night Out at Miu Miu!

Fashion
Sep 6, 2011

My mom and I had so much fun shooting these samples from the fall 2011 Miu Miu collection! We shot it at our local feed store called Master Made. I'm so excited to finally share them, and announce that we will be hosting an event on Fashion's Night Out at Miu Miu along with some other amazing people! Here is the invite.

VOGUE FASHION’S NIGHT OUT – MIU MIU MUSES NIGHT

To celebrate the third edition of Vogue Fashion’s Night Out on September 8th, 2011, Miu Miu will be holding its “Miu Miu Muses Night”. This special competition will reflect the Miu Miu girl’s inner Muse by inviting her to channel her own interpretation of the 1940’s infused Autumn/Winter fashion show, and will be held simultaneously in both its Milan and New York stores.

The attendees of the night will be photographed during the evening and the most inspiring one will be rewarded with an amazing surprise.

Hosts Shala Monroque and bloggers, Tavi Gevinson, Jane and Judy Aldridge and young socialites Harry and Peter Brant will welcome guests to the 57th Street store in New York .

In the occasion of Vogue Fashion’s Night Out, a preview of the new capsule collection will be presented and will be available exclusively in select Miu Miu boutiques in Milan , New York , Los Angeles and London .

Hope you can make it!

BEFORE NYC

Quick outfit post while I pack for New York…its going to be a long week! I can't remember what 60 degrees is like…the three months of triple digit weather here in Texas has been brutal.

I wore my Magda Berliner skirt with a 70's sweater vest and my new Laurence Dacade boots out to dinner on Friday. Definitely bringing these boots to NYC!

LAURENCE DACADE DREAM BOOTS

I think I'm in love! It's so perfect how all of the buckles give this boot a punky motorbike feel but the rounded toe and clean lines of it make it very demure and childish.

PRACTICAL BEAUTY TIPS

For low-maintenance girls.

1. Let your hair get dirty. I used to wash my hair every other day but I've been stretching it out to three or four days. I just use dry shampoo liberally. I love Oscar Blandi Dry Shampoo but I've started using Ojon Full Detox Rub-Out Dry Cleansing Powder which is supposed to actually cleanse your hair. I also find it gives it a bit of extra heft.  Dirty hair is amazing because you can literally make your hair do anything you want when its a bit dirty, the natural oils totally change it's structure and capabilities. It gets so full and  and you can make it hold any shape, just get a teasing comb and start sculpting. Wash your bangs if you need to. Audrey Hepburn only washed her hair once a week! I don't know if I could go that long. You also spend less time in the shower, and keep your hair color longer if it's dyed.

2. Use toner, it helps with acne and oil production in hot climates. I read several times that they don't do anything, but I have noticed such a difference since I started using one, I have clearer skin and my makeup lasts longer. I use an astringent from Neutrogena.

3. If you normally use eyeliner or shadow during the day, try going without it for a week and see how you like it. I used to use a lot of liner out of habit but I decided to try a fresher look and I much prefer it. One thing I can't live without is a ton of mascara…I can't give it up. I probably literally wear about five coats on my upper and lower lashes for night time.

4. Get Anastasia Tinted Brow Gel so you dont have to spend so much time filling them in. It's two in one, it gives your brows a defined shape and it makes them stay in place.  Mine get crazy without gel…

5. Drink ginger tea if you get an upset stomach often. I tried it at the recommendation of a friend and I like it because it helps with nausea and also because its very spicy and warming. My favorite is Triple Leaf Ginger Tea.

6. Stop using moisturizers that come in pots–they accumulate bacteria. How very gross!! Use stuff that comes in tubes and pump dispensers. My mom and I got rid of some products we were using that were in pots and noticed we now get fewer blemishes.

7. Don't forget to put sunscreen on your forearms and your ears. Just make sure your rub it in really well on your ears!

8. If you are travelling and forgot to bring a scrub, you can exfoliate with Vitamin C powder. I always travel with Vitamin C powder, in case it wards off colds…

9. To give your hair lots of body without using heat, make a ponytail on the very top of  your head, really get it up high! Twist the ponytail around itself to make a bun and secure it with bobby pins.Wear it like that all day and take it down at night for nice big hair, or you can even wear it to bed and take it out in the morning.

10. Flick your eyeliner up at a dramatic angle and put your blush very high on your cheekbones, then pull all of your hair back very tightly to give your face a new dimension. Alternatively to soften your features you could tease all of your hair into a soft cloud and pin it abstractly on top of your head, and leave some tendrils hanging down like they did in the seventies. Trying new things is fun.

Adolfo

Aug 28, 2011

I am so in love with this dress. It is the quintessential Adolfo dress! Probably from the seventies, maybe sixties. All of the Adolfo things my mom and I have are some of our favorites. I was digging around trying to find something to wear and I happened upon this dress and had to wonder why I haven't gotten it out more.

My only regret is that I didn't photograph it with a matching Adolfo beret I have. I forgot! What a shame. It would have been perfect. It is seriously the coolest hat ever, I'll have to post it soon.

Worn with Prada pumps from last fall.

FIFTH ELEMENT

FIFTH ELEMENT

This dress by Threeasfour always reminds me of the blue alien opera singer from the Fifth Element. It was given to me by my friend Jackie from VOD boutique a long time ago, and its one of my favorite dresses I have! The detailing on it is so unusual. Worn with my mom's really old Roberto Cavalli sandals.
