BACK FROM NYC!

Fashion
Feb 17, 2010

Just got back from NYC-I was there for five days for some exciting meetings and to hang out with friends. I didn't go to any fashion shows while I was there…fashion shows are not my cup of tea.

My mom spoke at the Chictopia10 summit-she did a great job. It was an illuminating conference and it so nice to meet other bloggers.

The gorgeous Raych from That's Chic.

My mom, speaking on a panel with Rebecca from The Clothes Horse.

We checked into the Soho Grand-my favorite place to stay in NYC. It was great people watching this weekend with all of the parties they had going on. We had a cool view from our room.

It's conveniently close to some of my favorite stops in NYC-namely the IF boutique, Opening Ceremony, Seven, and What Goes Around Comes Around. We barely had to leave the hotel to get to the IF boutique and What Goes Around. Which was really nice considering all of the snow (not visible in the above picture!)

What Goes Around Comes Around

IF Boutique

Every morning (and sometimes for lunch…and dinner) my mom and I eat at Le Pain Quotidien. I love that they play classical music in the morning when it's quiet. Definitely my favorite New York ritual. It's also right down the street from the Soho Grand!

I got homesick for Mexican food (a couple of times)…luckily Papatzul was right around the corner. They have these boiled egg enchiladas that are so tasty. It's way more authentic than the Tex Mex we have so much of in Dallas.

On Sunday we met up with some old friends and new friends to do some shopping.

Far left is Lucrecia of Fashion Is Poison…I was so happy to see her again! We had so much when she was in town back in Texas in December.

Second to the left is Emily of Cupcakes and Cashmere, Esti Choi of Austin-based online boutique Buy Definition (another familiar face), my mom Judy of Atlantis Home, me, and Gennie of Maison des Reveries

We all cleaned up at the IF basement sale. Can't leave NYC without some Ivan Grundahl.

They have the prettiest coffees in NY…iced cappucino from Le Pain Quotidien.

Latte from….???…I can't remember where we were.

My mom and I made a great haul at What Goes Around Comes Around. You'll be seeing more of our finds soon.

This is a Vivienne Westwood bustle skirt…you can undo the bustle…note the dangling 'garters'. This is my first piece of Vivienne Westwood and I'm very excited.

It was a suit and the jacket that went with it didn't fit me, so my mom is going to wear it. She has much broader shoulders than I do. Don't you think that breaking up vintage couture sets is a hideous crime? They're meant to be together! Preserve fashion history!

Detail shot of the bustle

Okay…it took me about 10 minutes to warm up to these TAO Comme des Garcons brogues. I thought 'Oh, they're exquisite, but I wouldn't wear them.' What a lie that was…they have barely left my feet since I purchased them. I need a kilt to wear them with. I have a one or two pieces being shipped home from NYC that they will look great with.

Can't stop looking at these guys….they have a sort of smushy, flattened shape when they are being worn on the foot. Like the well-worn shoes of a little boy.

My mom got this 80s moc croc Courreges puffer.

I dressed like a slob in NYC. Fashion week…what fashion week?? It's nasty outside and I didn't want to brush my hair.

Two of my closest friends Ronnie and Amit have just moved up to NYC…seeing them is the best.

Ronnie in his signature sweater explaning how to…make a cup of Ronnie.

Neon Indian played on the Jimmy Fallon show last Thursday….oh my god!

Well, it's really good to be home. It's been a busy month and I'm ready to get back to blogging.
 xo Jane.
